We left from Barcelona, after 2 days on the beach in Casteldefels (very relaxing and close to the airport). At around 12:00 we arrived near the ship. Luggage drop off was very easy. Someone with a sign picked us up from the queue and escorted us to the last check-in counter (number 34). We got our ship cards and were escorted to the room. Beautiful! The two-bedroom family room is great. Space for all; two bathrooms, three televisions and two DVD players. The balcony was larger than expected. You can put 4 chairs on it easily. Bathroom with shower overlooking the sea is marvelous.
As we were early we went for lunch in the haven restaurant. Nice menu, but the same every day. Restaurant, food and service were excellent all days. We went down to see the buffet and decided to stay at our floor every day, as many others in the Haven. There are special dishes in the evening, but apart from the lobster stake, the menu was better. Most wines were Californian. Restaurant hours are early compared to the Mediterranean life-style. Lunch is finished at 14:00 when in port they are just opening.
The courtyard pool area is great. Enough seats for everyone. Two whirlpools and a small pool at the same temperature. There are 2 hammams and a sauna, a good exercise room and a lounge. Most were not used all day. The 18th floor sun-deck is now not anymore for the courtyard, but available for all. The posh-club is also empty. It seemed 1400 children were on board, so the empty space is great.
Mini-club was OK for the 11 year old; he went once because the is only one sea day in this cruise. The 13 year old daughter did not like the club as it is for 13-17 years, and not as announced 13-14 and 15-17. She met a friend two days before arrival in our own courtyard. There are free DVDs for rent; there is a free movie channel with old movies. The butler delivered small snacks every day, so the children were very happy to relax in the room after the excursions and before entering the swimming pool.
The slides are very nice, but with some waiting. The shows were great, especially when seated at the first row. (not bad haven service)
In general we started very active with port excursions, but stopped at day 4. Napels is easy, walking to the tram. Rome OK with free shuttle bus to town within walking distance to the station. For Pisa the shuttle bus is 12 euro; a taxi is cheaper. Same for Marseilles, but better stay on board. Palma is easy with a taxi.
Disembarkation was easy, after breakfast. A long queue for taxi's at 9:00 but well organized. Now we are dreaming of the next cruise...
Well organized embarkation and dis-embarkation with 7 ships served the same time.
Very disappointing town. Taxi was unfriendly, even though we speak French!
Very easy by train or bus. Tram/train tickets are sold in front of ship, next to tram top. Leave the tram after the left corner; this is the station. Pompei Scavi is stop 18. Guides are available and useful. We were back before lunch.
Easy foir shopping; good shoes in Placa de la Reina; taxi is 12 Euro only.
Easy, with a free shuttle to town. Station sells BIRG tickets 12 euro, for train and Rome transport. Train takes 1 hour, with a stop at the Vatican or town. There is a lot top see in Rome but it is hot. When we entered the metro two girls tried to steel so watch out. We returned from Termini station; it is a long walk from the metro to platform 29 on the left. (15 minutes)
