Arrived at Southampton at 2 pm at a fairly busy port terminal. Fortunately there were plenty of staff to check everyone in and was on board the QM2 in about 15 minutes, which is probably the fastest we have ever boarded any ship.
We had booked a cabin with a sheltered balcony, was a bit concerned before going if sheltered really meant closed in and claustrophobic, luckily this was not the case. The balcony let in a good amount of light and being sheltered was actually a bonus as it was quite wet and windy in Norway.
The cabin itself was fine, nice and clean and tidy. It lacked a certain wow factor as we have been on some newer ships which have had nicer cabins, but certainly nothing to complain about.
After having read some negative reviews about the food recently we were somewhat apprehensive about what we would find.
Well the food in the Britannia restaurant was first class, we have cruised on 5 other lines and I would say the food on QM2 was probably the best we have ever had, followed closely by Celebrity.
We had a table for 4 at second sitting The staff were very well trained and catered to the tables needs brilliantly, the service was just right not too fast or slow. On some other lines we have had each course literally seconds after each other and been rushed out in 40 minutes. Here we were able to relax and have a leisurely meal and enjoy a bottle of wine and conversation with our table companions, a true restaurant experience.
As for the Kings Court Buffet I can see why some people get confused with the layout but after a couple of days we soon got to know how it worked, it is really four smaller areas rather than one big one and actually thought it was better as it seemed less crowded. Never had a problem getting a table.
The selection in Kings Court was smaller than on other lines but the quality of food was very good. I for one prefer quality over quantity.
QM2 much like every other line have numerous bars so every one should find something to their liking. We really enjoyed The Commodore Club for cocktails before dinner, prices for drinks on board were quite reasonable, not as cheap as some line but not exorbitant either.
We also liked the Queens room in the evening, especially when the band were playing live or the group of singers XtaSea were playing.
The theatre had some quite good shows on though they focused on dancing more so than singing, not the best entertainment we have seen but certainly good enough for the 45 minutes a night show.
X Factor winner Nikki Evans did a show one night and she was a very good singer.
Overall a very enjoyable cruise made even better by the very pleasant crew and staff who are a credit to Cunard, we will definitely be cruising with them again.
