Background- we cruised without our children. This was the our 3rd cruise and first on NCL. The other two were Royal and Princess. Our experience will vary from others as we were guests of The Haven on the Breakaway. We had a Spa Suite.
Getting on the ship was easy. There was a separate check in for The Haven, which was much shorter than the other lines, but it did seem like it was disorganized and we were told by others who had stayed in the Haven on the Epic that this was not as good. We were escorted onto the ship in a group of six, there was a designated elevator for the Haven, so no wait. We went directly to the Haven area, which was beautiful, modern looking, and comfortable. We were met by Ryan the concierge who explained that it was busy at that time (understandably) and that for the remainder of the trip it would never be crowded or have a wait for the bar, restaurant or concierge---he was 100% correct. He did take his time to book one reservation for us, despite More being busy, because others were booking multiple reservations and backing up the line.Throughout the cruise he assisted us with last minute reservations and changes to our plans without a glitch.
He suggested that we have lunch in the private dining room before going to our suite, it was a great idea and we had a nice lunch. The service in the Haven was incredible, the hosts at the restaurant, Singh and Sandra were great and always helpful with suggestions. They went out of their way to get us anything we needed or wanted. The service in the restaurant was great. and the food was amazing. The bar service in the Haven, was second to none. I cant imagine cruising any other way, we are completely spoiled from the Haven.
The Spa Suite we had on Deck 14 was huge, ton of storage, double sink bathroom, large shower, separate jacuzzi, modern lighting and furnishings, very comfortable bed and pillows, you would never have thought this was a room on a ship. Ron our steward was amazing and took care of anything we needed all week. We never had to wait or went without anything we needed. The room was kept immaculate!
The Gym/Spa-awesome gym, cardio and separate weight room with large selection of machines and free weights. The thermal Spa was great, warm pool, steam, sauna, heated lounges. Was empty on Port days and not that crowded in general, very relaxing. Spacious and clean locker room and plenty of clean towels, robes, coffee and cold fruit water always available.
Casino-Huge and plenty of tables, very friendly dealers. Larger than other ships we were on. I did not find it overly smoky, the tables were non-smoking, but you should expect smoking in casinos, it wasnt that bad in my opinion.
Restaurants- We did not have a bad meal all week. We only ate at Moderno as a specialty, and it was so good we ate there twice. Uptown grill, great, ate lunch and snack, Manhattan Room and savor were great with a lot of choices. We did not find any waits at all, but we did dine late (lunch and dinner). On at least 3 nights we were the last to leave the dining room well after 10-10:30 and never felt rushed, this included the Haven dining room which always accommodated us. The couple of times that we ate at the buffet, we found the food and choices to be excellent.
Pool-We stayed in the Haven pool area, which had a ton of lounges, beds, and couches always available. The pool is small, so if you are looking to swim, this is more like a small pool to jump in and cool off. It was quiet and relaxing which was what we wanted. There were indoor and outdoor decks.
Shows- Rock of Ages was great. Cirque was pretty good. Second City was OK. As Haven guests we got priority Front row seating at all shows which was awesome. No lines!
Disembarkation was smooth, sorry we had to leave after an amazing week.
The accommodations, service, food and amenities on the Breakaway and the Haven were fantastic! Less
