Went on the Explorer for a 9 day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. I was so very disappointed in the appearance of the ship. It certainly has seen much better days. Furniture in our handicapped stateroom was stained. Upholstered furniture in the dining room was stained. Arriving in Bayonne, New Jersey, the access was extremely bad. Having a handicapped person with us, we did not receive information on how to get a wheelchair. Handicapped person was very evident walking extremely slowly with a cane. Personnel could have helped, but did not. Trying to get checked in was a nightmare. Personnel came across with an "I could care less" attitude. Finally getting onto the ship, tried to get a wheelchair for handicapped person, but received a run around. When we arrived in our stateroom, the motorized wheelchair was there, thankfully. Attempting to get a table in the Windjammer was impossible. Personnel did not offer assistance to handicapped person attempting to balance dinner plate and cane. Received absolutely no pertinent information from excursion desk personnel, even after they could see person was in motorized chair. Ports of Call were fine. Did a snorkel in Bermuda which was wonderful. Boat personnel did everything possible, and even more, to assist handicapped person onboard, in and out of the water. Did not take any tours in Puerto Rico as we had been there previously. Did island tour in St. Maarten, which was nice. Unable to do any shopping due to handicapped person not having the option of taking motorized chair on the tour. Labadee was a beautiful place. Again, personnel, aware of handicapped person, offered no information or assistance.

Dining room servers were very attentive. Room steward was adequate. Would probably not said again on Royal Caribbean.

Cabin Review

Oceanview Stateroom

Handicapped stateroom furniture was badly stained. Parts of drapery were torn and off hooks. Balcony furniture was always dirty and not wiped daily. Only one waste basket in entire stateroom. Had no information on announcement system as it was off until we finally located it at day 7 of our 9 day cruise.
