EMBARKATION was the one above standard experience - smooth, quick, and bags arrived at our stateroom more quickly than ever before.
STATEROOM (small) was dirty on our arrival, we never met the cabin steward (who was dismissed halfway thru the cruise) second steward was little better than the first - attention to detail is not a priority among this crew.
DINING was a hit and miss proposition. We chose Freestyle Dining and freestyle is the operative word - we learned that to get a table we had to be at the dining room when the doors opened - as the cruise progressed others followed the same approach so that by the last night there was a crowd beginning to form by 5pm. Forget the Italian restaurant - totally booked all week. The Steakhouse was ok - but definitely not up to the specialty restaurant standard we experienced on an 05 cruise aboard the Diamond Princess. Food in the buffet was almost inedible - and the traffic flow made it very difficult to get a meal there.
The ship itself is nice enough but as reported by many other critics, the service on this cruise is largely indifferent and substandard. I think crew turnover, poor training, and inexperience are root causes. How many cruise ships have head waiters in the dining room with only 3 months experience!
NCL was gracious to give us this one free - but they still owe us for a promised credit against airline change fees. When I followed up I actually got correspondence back referencing a letter we never sent regarding a cruise we never took (but the date was the same.)
Not a bad way to see most of Hawaii in a short time but definitely not a good cruising experience.
