Ship Facts: Pride of America Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Pride of America Deck Plans
June 22-29, 2013 - 30th Anniversary Cruise

We are a 53 year couple who were celebrating our 30th anniversary. We have been on four other cruises to Alaska, Bermuda, Canada, and New England.

Pre-Cruise- Marriott Waikiki Beach for three nights. This was an expensive hotel booked through NCL cruise but it was beautiful and quiet. We swam in the pool and the protected beach nearby. There were many things to do close-by. We used VIP transportation to Pearl Harbor.

Embarkation-Easy with NCL check-in and transportation at Marriott.

Cruise- Balcony Room 9636 Port side. Quiet but terrible mildew odor most of the cruise. Safe didn't work, wear on bathroom surface, balcony floor dirty, and mildewed shower curtain. Response from Housekeeping: bottle of champagne and mildew odor subsided a bid after they cleaned the rugs outside the room. The room was convenient for getting to the buffet each morning. The port side was recommended for sailing along the Napali coast. It was a beautiful view from the balcony but you couldn't hear the narration from the speakers.

Ports-

1. Maui-rental a car from Alamo (good experience) and drove to Mama' Fish House for lunch, Costco,Walmart, Lahaina, and Old Lahaina Luau, Iao Needle. All stops were wonderful. Parking overnight at the pier, not so wonderful. No communication on where to park and walk back was long and scary.

2. Hilo- Volcano National Park tour through ship. Long day with lots of short stops all day long. Ok trip.

3. Kona-saw dolphins while tending to port. Great little town with stops at Kona Brewery and King's Summer residence and lots of shops. Nice day.

4. Kauai- private tour with Tread Lightly Kauai (sister tour of Kauai Eden Tours). Expensive day but saw many hidden gems with views one better than the other.

Disembarkation was smooth and shuttle to Thrifty car rental was quick. I wouldn't rent from Thrifty again, though because the location was not at airport and they gave us an old, dirty car.

Post Cruise- rented car and drove windward/east coast up to North shore. Again many good views but lots of traffic for one-lane road. Stopped at Temple and Giovanni's Shrimp Truck before checking in at Turtle Bay. Turtle Bay was amazing except air conditioning set point wouldn't go below 73 degrees so we had to switch rooms after a sleepless night- UGH. Did segway tour on ground then to Haleiwa for Motsomoto Shaved Ice and Grass Skirt Grill.
