Ship Facts: Norwegian Breakaway Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Norwegian Breakaway Deck Plans
Breakaway was horrible!!! Do not go

We have cruised many times, on many different cruise lines in the past, and this was by far the most disappointing experience we have ever had. From the minute we stepped onto the Breakaway, we felt we had been mislead. The boat did not feel state of the art and new- instead it smelled like smoke from the casino and felt dated. There were no open spaces or promenades like on other ships we've been on (RCCL- Independence of the Seas and Allure of the Seas and Celebrity Eclipse), and people were packed in everywhere. The rooms (we had a spa mini suite) were tiny and the balconies pathetic. There were never lounge chairs available and when we asked cruise staff for assistance we were told it was too bad and there was nothing they could do to help us. They did suggest we get up at 7:30 am to get chairs, but seeing as we were on vacation, we did not want to do that.

The food on the boat was disappointing as well. Our first night, we were handed a beeper and told we would have a 45 minutes wait at the main dining room. We went to Ocean Blue the following night ($49 per person up charge) and were so disappointed. Portions were tiny, and we were told we could only have one appetizer or we would be charged more. My husband was told not to order the black sea bass entree because it was really small- we questioned the waitress as to why they would put something on the menu that was too small to be served. My risotto in Ocean Blue was fine, but was no better than the risotto I have the next night in the regular dining room. The lunch buffet at the Garden Cafe was boring and limited, and in general, there was not much food available on the boat throughout the day relative to other cruise ships we have been on. Our cabin steward (Nicole) never came to meet us the entire week we were there, and in general the cruise staff was argumentative instead of helpful and friendly. We have never experienced anything like this before.

One standout on this cruise was the entertainment- Rock of Ages was amazing!!!

Overall, this was a disappointing cruise for us. Do not go on the Breakaway. You can do much better- there are much nicer ships with better food and nicer cruise staff for the same price. This ship is certainly no bargain!
