Ship Facts: Riviera Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Riviera Deck Plans
classy foodie ship

We have never travelled on any ship which had such a huge mix of people from all over the world as passengers and crew as on Riviera, and it was even more enjoyable for not having any one nation dominating .

Things we liked..... The sheer lux fit out of the ship, every design detail has been thought out and carefully built. Without exaggeration this ship is head and shoulders above any luxury ship we have sailed upon in every way possible.

The food.... is a real class act provided by a professional hospitality team. Brilliant menu construction and planning applied, disciplined inspired waiter service, knowledgable wine service. Pesentation and cooking perhaps American blandish but with the finest ingredients used throughout.

Poor maitrd in the Grand Dining room ( which is a bit like the Dorchester with knobs on), but very very good elsewhere.

A varied choice of venues and food offers not usually available on lux ships we have travelled on. All of a very high standard.

The stateroom.... the detail its frankly brilliant, nothing missed, everything planned and lavishly finished.

The service......1st class almost everywhere, except we did not have one conversation with any supervisor/manager /officer during the whole voyage ....either they where engaged (high rollers were handing out $10 bills willy nilly) or invisible. Service staff more than made up for the missing elite and were well rehearsed conversationalists.

The coffee.... really well made Illy from great kit everywhere.

The room service, so fast the coffee was still hot.

We did not like..... high rollers tipping and getting preferential service continuously. We felt and were treated as 2nd class.

The charges for the spa..... 50 for a wash and blow dry?.

The charges for tours which were seriously out of order...... top tip, organise your own on the internet before you go. Local operators have twigged cruise-ship owners fleece their passengers and will collect you from the ship at half the price for the same if not better tour (less people).

Being thrown off the ship on the last morning before 0900hrs ... plane leaving at 1730hrs, so we paid extra for an earlier flight to escape Rome airport.

Entertainment....... Excellent cabaret in smaller venues, absolutely the worse ever gawky dancing and lip synching in the so called big shows.

Enrichment *lectures"..... there only to drive onboard revenue which when they are discounting fares is a real shipboard priority.
