FIRST THE POSITIVES
Balcony cabin was reasonable size with plenty of storage and reasonable sized bathroom. Cabin attendants were excellent
Considering price paid was good value (AUD$2,050 total for 2 people)
Entertainment shows were excellent.
Coffee / tea not too bad provided you always went to Deck 9
Self luggage handling when getting off ship worked well - good idea
NOW THE NEGATIVES
Food was very ordinary. Way below standard of other cruises we have been on.
Selections in dining room were limited and always seemed to have a touch of sameness between days.
Oddest experience was having steak cooked. One night our table of 6 each had steak and everyone of us sent it back. We obviously weren't the only ones as after that night , the only options for cooking meat was 'medium to rare' or 'medium to well'. With options like that you couldn't complain (still sent it back though)
The steakhouse was nice but I have a problem with paying an extra $35/head for something they should have been able to do in the normal dining room.
Food in the buffet wasn't much better.
Layout of buffet was odd. Always seemed to be walking around corners to find that a section was closed
Ship layout is odd. Lots of corridors and little spaces off to the sides. Felt very 'pokey'. Art Deco styling not too bad but very dim in some parts
Biggest complaint was that to get from one end of ship to other - you always ended up walking through casino. Most other ships put it off the side or not on the main deck.
Price of alcohol is ridiculous. $7.50 for a beer - that's nearly 600% markup. Wine (if you like it) is a better proposition with some lower end brands only marked up in the order of 300%.
Service times at bars were very slow
Can't help feeling they make $ for cruise cheap but then take every single opportunity to charge you through the nose for everything else.
There is a charge for room service - it is only small $3 - $5 - but that is not the point.
Very invasive photographers! Always set up in main thoroughfares slowing everything and everyone down.
No sheer curtains to windows (track and slides are there - but no curtains). Main curtains did a good job keeping out light for sleep-ins.
Lots of kids. It wasn't school holidays. Must be absolute bedlam when school holidays are on. Avoid the buffet at peak times
We did 2 shore tours. We thought both were reasonably priced and good value.
3am one morning - recorded alarms went off all over the ship - in our cabin they were very loud and in Italian which always seemed to finish mid-sentence then repeat every 15 seconds or so. It took perhaps 4 or 5 minutes before the Cruise Director came over the PA system saying all was OK and told us all to go back to bed
Unsettled quite a lot of people. Many apologies the next day
Considering $ paid, it was good value
If you were doing it as a first cruise, you would be impressed but after cruising on other lines, it seems very ordinary
Would we do Carnival again? - mmmmmmmmmmm - probably not for a few years
Next cruise is with Princess in November
