Good Cruise on an Aging ship

Sail Date: June 2013
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

We used the Jewel for the second time to cruise the southern caribbean recently. We used the ship the first time to do northern Europe a number of years ago, and for us we could definitely see the signs of a ship that needs a dry dock and a revitalization process. We had an aft cabin the same as before and the couch in our cabin was torn even though you could see an attempt to fix it. The bathroom had a constant smell, and did not work well at times. I thought the crew was doing their very best to make us comfortable in spite of everything. We travelled with two other couples and one couple had major issues with leaks and wet floors, and the crew worked hard to assist. The ship is a great ship, it just needs to be updated and will be in 2014.

We loved the ports some of which we had not been to before.

Prior cruisers have complained about the food but I thought it was very good. We used both of the specialty restaurants and loved them.

I also thought the More entertainment was good including the cruise director. If you go DO NOT MISS the 70's rock and roll show in the Centrum, it is great. Less

Cabin review: Jewel of the Seas Superior Oceanview Stateroom Deck 7 1604

The couch was torn, bathroom had trouble working at times, but we like the aft cabins.

Island Tour

We booked the Best of Aruba with the ship. Good tour for a decent price.

We walked across the bridge and booked a tour in an open van. It was good and we saw the entire island.

We booked at the port. The tour was good but we had price issues in that we were quoted one price to be paid at the end of the tour, and then the price changed higher at the end. Be careful, bargain well.

Just got off the ship, walked around for an hour and back on the ship, no bargains to be had.
