I have done many cruises so far, but the 7 day cruise on the Carnival Liberty (7 days to the E. Caribbean) is my favorite both in terms of the ship as well as the ports (the only exception would be an Alaskan cruise). We went to San Juan, St. Thomas, Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay which is a little slice of heaven.
The food-- was very good in the MDR as well as the lido area with the only major exception being with the bacon in the Lido area. I do wish the cruise line as a whole would cook the bacon where it is done and crispy...not barely warmed and rubbery. When you can take a piece of bacon and tie it into a knot and it not break, then we have an issue. But the food portions were well more than adequate in the MDR, and the service was pretty good. The only exception came on the last evening. We were among the first to arrive in the dining room at 6 but among the last handful to leave and it was thanks to the slow service for our table. One table of two which was beside us More
arrived at 6:30 (well beyond the time they should have reported), yet they were served and out of the dining room by 7:15. I realize we had 9 ppl at our table, yet the service was definitely much different but by the same wait staff. I made my comments known to the Maitr D.
The cabin-- we were in an ocean suite. These are very spacious, have a double sink in the bathroom, tub/shower combo with a whirlpool in the tub. They have a changing area and vanity just outside the bathroom which made things easier to get ready without having to crowd into the bathroom itself. There was a nice sitting area in the cabin and the balcony was longer with three chairs instead of the standard two. The cabin steward we had was great-- no complaints at all.
The ports-- I love Half Moon Cay and would gladly stay there for a week. We rented the private oasis for the day. There were 10 of us. Between the hot tub made for 8 people, plenty of food prior to lunch, then bbq chicken, Mahi/Mahi, etc... for lunch, open bar, easy access to swimming/snorkeling, floats, snorkels/fins/masks, music system to hook up our iPod to, comfortable seating inside the oasis, etc... It was a perfect day. In St. Thomas, we took a cab up to Blackbeard's Castle, then after the walk around and making some pictures below, we walked down the 99 steps (which are actually 103) into Charlotte Amalie and did some shopping before returning to the ship. In San Juan-- we took the San Juan favorites excursion which went to El Yunque rainforest (it lived up to its name and was raining off and on but we enjoyed seeing it, and La Coca falls was amazing) then we went to tour San Cristobal fort before returning to the ship. In Grand Turk, we did a short walk around the shops at the pier before doing the Reef and Rays tour. The reef and fish were great and we enjoyed playing with and feeding the stingrays at Gibb's Cay.
Overall-- on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give the overall week on the cruise a 9.5 with just a few minor areas to improve as mentioned above. Less
