Fantastic first cruise

Sail Date: June 2013
Destination: Asia
Embarkation: Singapore

We booked this cruise on a package that was too good to refuse. There were six of us altogether, most of whom had cruised before but not on the Virgo. Our cruise was 5 nights, stopping at Redang, Koh Samui and Bangkok. We had booked 3 Balcony class cabins and received $400 food and beverage credit per cabin as part of the package. This was very handy as we ended up not paying anything for drinks or meals for the entire cruise.

We read a few reviews before we left and were warned by our travel agent about how some of the other nationalities behave in board. The reviews are right; some people are very pushy (especially when getting on/off tender boats), can be rude and at the buffet you feel like its feeding time at the zoo. It helps to know this may happen before you go and prepare yourself for it. However, we found that the majority of people on board were very nice, friendly and polite.

The ship itself is amazing. It's modern but with a distinct Asian theme. The More staff are fabulous; incredibly friendly, accommodating and always smiling. They make you feel welcome straight away. We had no problems at all during the trip, everything was organised extremely well by the staff.

The cabins are very nice. We had an ocean view stateroom with balcony. It was large enough for the two of us. Beds are quite hard and pillows very thin but that's my only complaint. The balcony had a little table and 2 chairs which we used often. We also had a big flat screen tv (limited channels), mini bar fridge, tea/coffee facilities, ice box, safe, mini couch and iron. The bathroom is small (only fit one person at a time) but included hair dryer.

The food was fantastic. The Bella Vista restaurant (a la carte) is the best place for the free meals. We didn't bother with the buffet once we ate at Bella Vista! The Palazzo Italian restaurant (additional charge) served us one of the best meals I have ever had. I thoroughly recommend it, the extra charge is worth it and it isn't that expensive compared to Australian prices. The chef also came out to meet us which was a nice touch.

The Bellini bar was our favourite place on board. It had a relaxed atmosphere, staff were friendly and the nightly entertainment (solo and trio singers) were great. The Observatory was also a good place for a drink, it's right at the front of the ship so you get an amazing view, especially when coming in or out of port.

There is so much to do on board that I have only mentioned a few of my favourites. If you can get this cruise on a special package including a balcony room and f&b credit I thoroughly recommend it. Just be prepared that this isn't a 'western' ship and therefore some of the etiquette of other passengers is not what you would expect. Less
