Embarkation at Venice was very efficient. Allocated a zone on registration we waited until called and getting through security and on board was very orderly. We had time to have lunch and explore the ship until our cases arrived. Our mini suite on deck 11 was spacious and we were well pleased with the bathroom which had a sliding door to separate the wc within it and a sliding door on the bath/shower. Towels for the pool were already in our cabin and the mini bar was stocked. During our entire cruise our cabin steward could not have looked after us better.

Freestyle dining was new to us and we were very pleased how many tables for two were available within the two main restaurants. Food was not gourmet - but it was straightforward and apart from a menu that changed, there was always smoked salmon, Caesar salad or a New York strip, chicken fillet and lemon sorbet available. We dined in Cagneys on one occasion and although we enjoyed the shrimp cocktail/salad and fillet steak we were disappointed in a stodgy apple crumble. We loved the Sushi bar! The self service restaurant with its option of outdoor seating was well set up. Instead of having to queue in a line for food, there were islands which dealt with salads, hot dishes, grill/pizza, desserts/fresh fruit etc. It was therefore possible to create what you wanted. Here the desserts were dainty and delicious. There was also a help yourself ice cream machine which was great. We went to the Pacific Dining room each morning and thought that the choice of juices, cereals and fresh fruit fine. Eggs done anyway you liked them + eggs benedict with smoked salmon or smoked salmon on its own. Rolls and coffee were good and sometimes we had tea. We used the spa and found it very relaxing. We used the library and found a good choice of books. We went to two shows and really enjoyed them in a theatre that seated c.1,000 people. We enjoyed music in the bars, especially a trio Guys and Doll where people could dance more traditional cha chas and the tango etc.

We found staff to be friendly, helpful and polite at all times. The adult only swimming pool was a boon! We were sad to leave, yet disembarkation was also well organised, so it was altogether a good experience. Other reviewers mentioned the noise above deck 11 from the pool deck. We found that the noise was only heard when on our balcony and was usually twice a day - morning as the place was set up and evening 7pm as staff put sun loungers back into place. It was not particularly annoying and our cabin was quiet and insulated with two air con units. Did we have any niggles? Too few to include in a review as the overall experience was very good on our first time with NCL and on the JAde.
