Ship Facts: Rhapsody of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Rhapsody of the Seas Deck Plans
Rhapsody of the Seas - Western Caribbean
Fifth time cruiser - first time Royal Caribbean cruiser. Traveled with husband and 2 year old daughter. Flew into Houston International airport - IAH - Saturday prior to ships departure. Stayed at hotel by airport and rented an Enterprise Car one way to Galveston. Called the office direct and got a $30 rate for a compact car. If you call the 1-800 number to reserve they charge you a one way destination fee. Was fine for the 3 of us to take to Galveston. Easy drive to the cruise ship terminal. Dropped the family off at the port and took the car back. The enterprise office was a little hard to get to. You have to go past it and turn around to be able to enter into it, at least from the direction I came. The one- way access I found confusing. Once there, dropped the car off and Enterprise drove me back over to the ship. Once inside around 12:00, we were through the line and on the ship in less than 30 minutes. Headed right up to the Windjammer to grab some lunch. Enjoyed the variety offered. Tables were being bussed quickly. Staff was very friendly. Was in room by 1:15. Unpacked carry-ons. Room very tiny - what I expected - but laid out very well. Plenty of storage space and then some for the three of us. Went to explore the ship. Muster was long and hot out on deck. We were waiting for someone who never showed. Once that was over we were on our way. Had early seating for dinner - must have with a 2 year old. Our tablemates had a 2 month old which our child thought was great. She was very entertained. They were a lovely family and we enjoyed dining with them very much. Waiter and assistant were fantastic. Very devoted to 2 year old. We had ordered the wine and dine package - the least expensive package - and found it to be good enough as far as selection goes. Day 1  at sea day. Great day. Spent time at the pool with the 2 year old. She really enjoyed it. Had lunch in dining room. Calamari on the menu was the best I ever had. Chocolate crème brulee also outstanding. Took 2 year old to the adventure ocean group for 18 months through 3 years and were disappointed. It was like a play group where they just put out some Fisher Price toys. We were hoping for a little more structure, but we found out that doesn't occur until they are 3. We didn't try that again. Child enjoyed pool much better. Day 2  another at sea day. Tried the clown who set up in the Atrium and made animal balloons and would paint the children's faces. She was FANTASTIC. Highly recommend her. Day 3  Ochos Rios. We did order room service for breakfast. It was an hour late. When I called they said it was on its way but we didn't get it for another 30 minutes. I recommend you request an earlier time than what you need as she told me they get very backed up on port days. We had booked an excursion with the cruise line. Went to Brimmer Hall Plantation, Dolphin Cove and Dunns Falls. Worthwhile excursion. My only complaint was that it was too rushed. Didn't have enough time at any of the three places. Everyone wanted tips, too, not just the person running the tour but her assistant, the driver, the drivers assistant, and everyone at each of the three places we went to. Its not like the excursion was inexpensive to begin with. Was a neat place to see but don't care if I ever go back. Day 4  Grand Caymen  booked excursion on our own with Moby Dick tours (based on a cruise critic review recommendation) to swim with the stingrays. They were fantastic. Organized, nice, knew what they were talking about. Enjoyed it very much. Was concerned about how our 2 year old would be  she thought it was great. After the stingray swim you go on over to a coral reef to snorkel and they even outfitted our daughter with flippers for the swim (we had brought a vest with us). She didn't want to get out of the water. Enjoyable experience for the whole family. We did tender here and did not experience any problems. Was very organized and quick. Day 5  Cozumel  took a cab once we got off the ship to a beach that cab driver recommended. Loved it  beautiful, clean, quiet  had a great time. Came into town then to do some shopping. We did get to dock there but wished we had to tender because the Carnival ship was close to town. The dock was a few miles away - $6 cab fare to town one way. Day 6  last at sea day Day 7 - back into Galveston. We had a late afternoon flight back home out of Houston so we were not in a hurry to get off the ship. We slept in (as much as possible because it did get noisy with everyone getting off the ship) took our carry ons up to the Windjammer for the last meal on the ship. Had breakfast and headed off the ship. Longer getting off then getting on  took us about an hour to get off, get bags, and get through customs. We had an Enterprise rental for $40 to pick up , again a compact car. You have to walk over to Carnival's terminal to get your keys to the rental, but the car is in the garage across the street. No shuttles to off site pick up  that was nice. Again, I made the reservation directly with the office in Galveston because the 1-800 number wanted to charge a one way drop off fee. Overall  great cruise, especially for the price. Staff couldn't have been nicer. Ship was in great shape. We saw very little wear and tear. Staff was always cleaning something. We enjoyed the food immensely. Especially lobster night where we each asked for seconds on the lobster tail! Would cruise this ship again in a heartbeat!
