Azamara Journey - Outstanding Friendly Experience3
We had such a great experience on the Azamara Journey I can't see us looking beyond Azamara Club Cruises for future cruises. Our Singapore to Mumbai cruise was almost impossible to fault.
The size of the Azamara Journey was perfect for us. 600 passengers meant much more personal service and interaction with the officers and crew who almost became fellow travellers. No stuffy formal nights, much less frenetic activity and crowding for onshore excursions. The no tipping concept meant that the wonderfully attentive and friendly attitude of room, table, drinks stewards was genuine and not for monetary reward.
The food was outstanding, particularly in the Windows Buffet, so much better than Holland America. No standing in lines for self service coffee and tea (table service even in the buffet) and the selection of wines (included in the price of the cruise and never lacking or restricted) was first class. Each day the wines were from a different country which was a wonderful More concept.
We had previously read some critics write down the themed and guest entertainment on Azamara cruises. Boy they must have been hard to please because the shows on this cruise made some others we have experienced look like amateur karaoke affairs. And the cruise director Eric De Gray - what a character and what a talent.
This cruise was slightly more expensive than our other cruises but all in all much better value for money spent. When you take into consideration all the "free" wine, soft drinks, speciality coffees etc and water ($40 a bottle for comparable wine and $3.20 a bottle of water on HAL) plus the 50% discount for pre booking land excursions the value was certainly there. As with other cruise lines the internet connection was expensive and slow.
None of the snobbishness of trying to get a gig at the captain's table. What other cruise ship are you likely to have the captain and cruise director ask if they can share your lunchtime table in the buffet? And we weren't subjected to the hard sell and continual bombardment with the latest offers from the spa, wine tasting, raffles for the shop or the on-board chance to buy tacky souvenirs which you get on other cruises.
We can sum it all up by saying that it was a wonderfully relaxing experience high-lighted by the absolute friendliness and interaction by all concerned. Can't wait for next year when we take our three end on end cruises on Azamara Quest which we booked while on board the Azamara Journey! Less
