Wow, what a surprise this ship was. If it had launched 10 years ago, I would have been impressed. But I don't think it can compete with other ships today.

Check-in was uneventful. At the entrance to the ship there were several staffers and loud music, the kind that tries to generate excitement. They were trying to get people to dance their way onto the ship. I know some people like that and it puts them in the mood but I thought it was annoying. I just wanted to get to my cabin.

However, I was disappointed the minute I walked in. It was so dull looking! The last time I was on a Norwegian ship, it was a lot more colorful. Beige walls and brown accents on the Breakaway. The bathroom was well organized but I was surprised there were no freestanding amenities, just dispensers for soap and shampoo (no lotion, no conditioner). Not only did it seem cheap (but eco friendly) to me, but a user had no way of knowing what kind of soap it is -- and some people have sensitive skin.
