First ever cruise and family loved it

Sail Date: May 2013
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
Embarkation: Rome (Civitavecchia)

We had never cruised before and were very nervous about what to expect. We are a family from Melbourne, Australia and chose this cruise because we liked the itinerary and the fact it was a new ship but had very little idea about the differences between the cruise companies.
The ship is amazing, facilities are fantastic, food incredible and staff were amazing.
I would not say this is a child cruise company as there were about 2800 passengers on our cruise and only 38 children under 17. Having said that our kids loved it, they are 2 girls aged 9 and 11 and spent time in the kids club and due to the small number got a lot of attention and were treated fantastically.
There were many people on this cruise were were older as in 50+ but also a good mix of younger ones. It is not a party cruise where you will be up all night getting drunk and partying but that was fine by us. We met some great people from honeymooners, married couples without kids and couples who had left their More kids at home and gay couples. Everyone got along really well and we spent most nights dinning as a group with our new found friends.
We bought the premium drink package and as a result tried many new cocktails and mixed drinks which we would not normally do and definitely drank more than we other wise would have to get our moneys worth. In hind sight I would not buy a package again unless I had on board credit or some type of package. The drinks were not that expensive. The food was fantastic and we found no need to try any of the specialty restaurants.
The shows were great although the comedian had the shame show for 3 nights which should have been changed.
Overall we are now going to cruise again. It was a great introduction to cruising and now we have got over our initial nerves. Celebrity are a premium and very professional company who I would highly recommend.
I think next time I will try RCCL (owned by same company as Celebrity) to get some more kids to play with ours, but either way I think Reflection was amazing. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Reflection 9237

Very happy with cabin. Bunk bed which comes out of ceiling is very clever and saves heaps of space. All beds were very comfortable. We were very worried about fitting 4 people in the one stateroom but it was more than adequate. A cabin with a balcony I think is a must, even if you are not out there a lot being able to get some fresh air into the room is a must. The rooms are very well designed to make use of all space, the shower looks small but once inside is more than adequate. There is lots of storage space under the bed also for suit cases etc which was great as we had excess luggage from a month in europe prior to the cruise. We also visited new found friends in one of the suites which was amazing (4103) spa bath and shower on the balcony, massive tv's and entertaining area in lounge room. Rooms are fantastic.

Port and Shore Excursions

Grand Bizarre is a bit crazy and over rated and over priced. The spice markets were great and we also went and observed a prayer service at the mosque which was a very special experience and probably the highlight of Istanbul. I personally wouldn't bother with bus transport as everything is within walking distance

Tender boats took us to shore which took a while which was a shame but there is no other option. Cable car or Donkey ride to get to the top. A drink and a meal watching the sunset and the ships below were the highlight.
