Celrebrity Disapointment

Sail Date: May 2013
Destination: Baltic Sea
Embarkation: Southampton

This was our sixth cruise (first from a UK port)previously we have sailed with RCCI and Celebrity Equinox.
Embarkation and disembarkation could not be faulted, very quick and efficient.
Once on board we were greeted by the offer of a glass of bubbly, unfortunately the staff forgot that service should be delivered with a smile and welcome.
Having Sailed Celebrity Equinox we know this class of ship and find it very good on the eye and easy to navigate your way around. A criticism I would have of the bar areas are that there are not enough seating areas, indeed this could also be said about the main buffet eating area Ocean View, on every visit to this venue we had to wait for a seat, it seemed some people were just using the area to sit and have a chat. Tidying and cleaning of used tables seamed very slow. We had chosen select dining (a first for us and last)We didn't enjoy this experience and missed the rapport you build with regular waiting staff when sat at the same table More each night, Having pre paid a drinks package I expected that our wine glasses would be regularly filled throughout dinner, I constantly had to look for the sommelier to replenish our glasses. We ate at Qsine (Fantastic experience) and Tuscan Grill, both offered super service and a very friendly atmosphere, why do you have to pay a supplement to get this level of service? The stateroom was roomy with plenty of storage space, the bathroom a good size again with plenty of storage space. We did not watch any of the entertainment so can't comment on this. On all previous cruises the Captain has had regular announcements (quite often amusing)on ports, weather, cruising distances, point of interest etc, I never heard one announcement like this on this cruise.
In summary the on board experience on Eclipse was lacking the expectation of a 5* cruise company, our previous experience on Equinox was superb and eclipsed this experience by a long way. I would not recommend this ship and its staff to fellow cruisers.
Ports of Call
Molde, Alesund, Flam, Bergen and Stavanger.
Highlights were;
Flam, very Picturesque with the railway journey being a must.
Stavanger, a very nice port, old Stavanger houses next to port were very quaint, unfortunately we arrived on a bank holiday to find the whole place closed (Captain could have announced this) bar one souvenir shop! Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Eclipse 6210

6210, sold as a restricted view, restricted view is only looking down onto life boats, does not restrict view to horizon. Lager than normal balcony as on angle of hump. Room spacious with plenty of storage, good mid ship location close to lifts but quiet location.
