Honeymoon on Epic

Sail Date: May 2013
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

We just returned from our honeymoon on the Norwegian Epic from Barcelona. We actually embarked in Naples for a 5 night cruise, rather than the full 7 nights. Our cruise consultant got us port approval, and boarding the ship was easy in Naples. Check-in took a little longer than expected due to our deviation, which is understandable. We were later escorted to our cabin.

CABIN:
We had a Mid-ship suite with balcony, room 10088. directly across from the stairs/elevators. We thought our location was the best in the ship, as we didnt have to walk long narrow hallways to get to our room. And it was quiet as the rooms are well sound-proofed. The size of the room and balcony are excellent. We loved the curvy design. There is plenty of storage space. The controversial bathroom was nice in our opinion. Our room also had a bathtub instead of a shower was great. The room was spotless clean. We had Champagne and Chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us one night. The bed is very More comfortable and they provide plenty of pillow options.

DINING:
Lots of choices. The food was excellent on most nights. We liked the freestyle dining experience. Dinner at Manhattan was delicous and fun with the performing band. The ship staff knew it was our honeymoon and they went out of their way to make it magical for us. we got the best ocean view table on our first night. The food was delicous, especially the cheesecake. Dinner at Taste was a similar experience. We also tried Teppanyaki once, it was very entertaining and the food was phenomenal. The buffet dinner in the Garden Cafe was also good. The crepe station was delicious. We ate breakfast and lunch snacks in the garden cafe. The hot-dogs were our favorite snack.

ENTERTAINMENT:
The ship shines here at night, although we were hoping for more entertainment during the day as well, other than bingo! We watched Legends of Rock and Blue Man Group. Both shows were excellent and very entertaining. We had so much fun. Seats are on a first come-first served basis, so go early. We didn't go to the Cirque show as we heard many mixed reviews. The ship gives you a Las Vegas feel, with the casino being in the middle of it all. Smoking is allowed in the casino, but we didnt feel it eventhough we are both very sensitive to smoke. The pools were ok. We were expecting a little bigger swimming area. Sun beds are plenty. We went to deck 18 for a quiet view of the sunset on more comfortable sunbeds. The waterslides are exhilirating and fun! Must do.

PORTS & SHORE EXCURSIONS
We had booked our own tours with a private company for Rome and Florence, but did take the shuttle for 12$ to Marsielle and Palma. We just wanted to relax and see things on our own the last 2 days.

SPA/FITNESS CENTER:
We did the couples massage lesson, which was actually very private contrary to what we expected. We recommend this to all couples. It was amazing. The SPA facilities are exceptional but a little overpriced. They have daily specials but it's still very inflated. The service and cleanliness are excellent, and the sauna has phenomenal views of the sea. It does come with a charge unless you book a Spa category room.

SERVICE:
All staff members were happy and fun to interact with. At restaurants they knew it was our honeymoon and we kept getting a special cake with a group staff song. They really made it into a very romantic cruise.

VALUE:
Well worth it. There's a few unpublished fees here and there. Internet was outrageously expensive and so was the photography.

DISEMBARK
Very easy. You get a balance reciept at 5 am to your room which is automatically settled if you gave them a credit card at check in. Then you just walk out of the ship. No lines when we disembarked at 7 am. Taxis at the port take you to the airport in a 25 minute drive.

VERDICT
Amazing epic ship. We had a fantastic time. Great for honeymoon. Less
