Having sailed on Celebrity, Holland, Azamara and NCL, this was our first cruise on Carnival. We chose the Fantasy because 1) sailing from Charleston SC, within driving distance, 2) only five night, we have a seven night scheduled on RCL in November, and c) interesting in seeing for Carnival is a good fit for us on future cruising. About us: My partner and I are mid 50s. My parents, in the early 80s, joined us in the cabin next door.
Cabin: Had an oceanview on Main deck. In our cabin, the beds were configured in an L-shape, in my parents cabin, they had the queen size configuration. The L-shape definitely made the cabin seem bigger and more useful space. So if you dont mind NOT sleeping with your other half, the L-shape is the way to go. Insulation must be good, or we (including parents) got lucky with neighbors, not a sound from the adjoining cabins. More than adequate storage space, with suitcases fitting under one of the beds. The bathroom was functional, and I was impressed by the shower drain. Not leakage or overflow on the floor.
Food: I gained 5.4 pounds and a five day cruise, so you can guess my opinion on the food. BTW, I deliberately lost 5 pounds prior to the cruise, to compensate.
