My wife showed the Carnival person her back brace and said she could not take the long line at check-in. Bang zoom we went to the front of the assistance needed line and whoosh we were on the ship having lunch and I had my first of my fruity drinks in hand!
All in all it was pretty good cruise. Our room (6303) was an inside cabin It was noisy and then we found it was above the casino and the casino band! Never take this room. We got it changed! The next room (2350) was much quieter. And they gave us a $$ credit for our trouble. Weather was pretty good but cool on the ship going down and we had a lousy waiter (late dining Gold Pearl lower) who was more into making jokes with diners than serving food. My wife burned her mouth on hot soup and instead of a simple sorry the waiter made jokes about her pain. We spoke to the maitre'd and the next night the waiter apologized profusely and said he almost lost his job for that. He had a much better attitude the More
next night and for the rest of the cruise.
We finally got it, this cruise was one where everything a just a bit off. Never bad but never really perfect as in the past. It is our 4th cruise and 3rd with Carnival.
We were supposed to hit Nassau last but had to detour on the way down so someone could get airlifted off the ship to a hospital. We heard he is OK. So our itinerary was reversed and we got Grand Turk last and lost a couple hours off that stay. A small price for a persons health. No complaint there at all.
We hit the British Colonial Royal Hilton in Nassau for the beach. A fellow cruiser told us about it but had never been. You get the place for a day and lunch. Real nice place (well it is the Hilton). So our lunch was a long time coming and we asked another waiter to check . It showed up quickly and before we had a bite the restaurant manager was over apologizing, 'this is the Hilton we don't like this etc.' they were very nice about it all.
The islands were lovely, aqua blue water, white sands, palm trees, 88-95 temps.
The ship ride back was uneventful.
Debarkation was simple just waiting for you turn to get off but it was on time.
Food excellent, room service of continental breakfast was right on time at 7 every day in our room. Warm croissants, danish, fresh fruit chunks, coffee and more. Later we would go for a real breakfast/brunch.
Service - well other than the dinner waiter, the rest was great, all the barkeeps got my name and number and choice after a day or so. Then I'd just wave and they would bring what I wanted.
Decor was pretty tacky but who cared. Before dinner we'd sit in the lobby bar with the 9 story atrium listening to a soft guitar/singer then off to dinner.
We tried for the comedy shows but every time we went it was SRO or the door was closed s it was at capacity. We heard the shows were great.
So how was our 3rd Carnival cruise , hmm 4 stars seems to fit. I few bumps but plenty of rest and relaxation for us. We are just over 60 and like to chill quietly. Less
Carnival Splendor Cruises to the Eastern Caribbean
went shopping and to the Colonial Hilton with a day pass. That is what we wanted nice quiet relaxing and a short walk from the ship. A great lunch if that is what you are looking for. Probably not for kids as it is a beach and that is it. It is not Atlantis but we didn't want that.
