First time cruisers fun

Sail Date: April 2013
Destination: Europe - River Cruise
Embarkation: Amsterdam

As first time cruisers, we couldn't have asked for a better trip. The Viking Sun crew was awesome! The day trips were quite interesting and fun filled. Even the local guides selected for various tours were fantastic. The food on board was delicious. We loved the relaxed atmosphere of hanging out in the lounge, visiting with other members of our group as well as folks from the UK and USA. The housekeeping staff was phenomenal. Those folks worked tirelessly to keep the ship clean and welcoming. The Program Director, Damiano was awesome! Funny, attentive and always had an upbeat smile.

We liked that lunch on board offered two options: either in the main dining room or in the lounge. Having the chef outline the evening's dinner menu each night was a plus.

The shore excursions were excellent. We never felt hurried and we had plenty of free time with each excursion. At the end of the trip, Viking's departure process was very organized. As a retired military member, I'm used More to logistics and organization. The Viking Sun crew gets high marks from me!

We visited Kinderdijk, Netherlands; Cologne, Germany; Koblenz, Germany (where we visited Marksburg Castle);Mannheim, Germany where we went by bus to Heidelberg; Kehl, Germany where we went by bus to Strasbourg, France; Breisach, Germany where we took a bus ride to the Black Forest and visited a cuckoo clock workshop (and ate real Black Forest cake!). Final port was Basel, Switzerland where we transferred to the airport for our trip home., Less

Cabin review: E228 Standard Stateroom

Our cabin was not far from the engine room so we did hear the engines. Hallway traffic was quiet though. The bathroom was a bit tiny but you're not on the ship to hang out in the bathroom!

Port and Shore Excursions

We arrived from Denver on the day of departure so we did not have time to explore the city.

This was a great city to explore on your own or with a guide. Lots of great historic sites and places to eat.
