This review is for our Eastern Caribbean cruise aboard RCI's Mariner of the Seas which left 10/1/06 and returned 10/8/06. We left from Port Canaveral -> 1st stop was CocoCay ->Day at Sea -> St. Thomas ->St. Martin->2 days at Seas-> Return to Port Canaveral.
I am 35 and my wife is 40 with a 20 month old son. We stayed in Junior Suite on the back of the ship, Deck 6.
EMBARKATION: Living in the Orlando area, we had an easy drive to Port Canaveral. We arrived around 11:45am to a long line of traffic. It took us approximately 1 hr to traverse the port to merely drop off our luggage. We had sailed on the Sovereign of the Seas 3 weeks prior and experienced nothing like this. At first we blamed Port Canaveral for their slow handling of vehicles, but later learned that the cruise prior had disembarked late, therefore everything was held up - hence the long car delay. Once we parked and were in the terminal, security, check in, and getting onto the ship were fairly easy. Word of advice, be sure ALL paperwork is filled out prior to entering the terminal. It makes your life A LOT easier and speeds up the process. Aside from the 1 hr wait, embarkation was fairly smooth.
