This was our third cruise in as many years, 2011 was on the Allure and 2012 was on the Oasis. We loved them all. The Independence provided more views of the sea, which we really enjoyed. The dining options compared to the Oasis and the Allure are much more limited but we didn't miss them. The new menus are wonderful. The entertainment is so different from the Oasis class that I won't even try to compare. We enjoyed the entertainment on this ship for a very different reason, it was a bit more laid back and you could decide at the last minute what you wanted to do, which is a nice option when compared to the Oasis booking requirements. We upgraded to a JS on this cruise and I highly recommend it. The extra space both inside and out on our balcony was wonderful. It also gives you priority boarding which was really nice. Our bed did have an egg crate to compensate for the mattress, which I am certain will be replaced during dry dock. But this just made the bed more comfortable. Our room steward was terrific as were all of the the staff, from our wait staff, Godwin and Ikeisha, to every one of the bar tenders that we met. I would comment that I think the drink package is not a great deal. Unless you can handle alot of alcohol every day, and very few people can or should, it's difficult to get your monies worth. Sadly I did hear of at least one person who got cut off on the third day. And with the number of people that I observed getting drinks at 8 AM, this must have been a pretty extreme situation. Our daughter really enjoyed the teens club, thanks to Zoey for her help. The older group, which she was allowed to join, seemed to have a bit more fun. Apparently the leader of the 12 - 14 group was not quite as much fun. Teens do have a bit of a choice so it they want to join the older group they can. This itinerary is really good. Love St. Maarten, St Kitts was nice, will definately go back to San Juan and a day on Labadee is always great. The length of the trip gives you more time to relax at sea which is nice. I have been looking at the new quantum ships and the add ons that they are introducing. Not for me, I am more interested in having more pools, not less, and more deck space, than bumper cars and sky diving simulators. We walked ourselves off around 7 and there was quite a line but it moved quickly. I much prefer self walk off. Do give this ship a try, it's lovely. Was it perfect, maybe not, but it was a really really great trip, the staff was friendly and very helpful, the ship is really nice but the ports make it for me. We only had one slight bump, the water slide on Labadee was boring, that's the nicest thing that I can say about it. But the exercusions desk was great and credited our account with the $20/person charge so don't waste your time or money on this. Hope you find you enjoy the Indy as much as we did. What the heck, any ship is a good ship. Enjoy them all. Bon voyage everyone.
