Lovely Silver Cloud!
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan
The Silver Cloud is a fine, elegant lady, who has been refurbished retaining the subdued elegance that first impressed me in 2011. We thoroughly enjoyed our mid-ship veranda cabin, especially since we were cruising the lovely Caribbean Sea. Our butler was helpful, although maybe our accents (Spanish) and his accent (Indian) made for some minor communication issues. Communications issues also happened with the breakfast and lunch waiters (strange; not with the dinner waiters!). For some reason, hot coffee orders had to be repeated almost every day. But, of course, all were very courteous and accommodating, and we eventually got our hot coffee.
I have to say that I found that the food was much better than in our 2011 experience; the wines, however, still need improvement (especially the reds). We ate fish and seafood practically all of the time, and the jumbo prawns were excellent in different preparations.
We did not care very much for the itinerary, but we were More aware of this when we booked. The in-out port was San Juan, which gave us the opportunity to visit with family. Apart from San Juan and all its historic sites and well preserved colonial architecture, the ports appealed much more to water sports enthusiasts, which we are not. We enjoyed walking about in the small port cities, and mostly savored talking to locals. We visited Tortola, Barbados, Becquia, Isle des Saints and St. Croix. Economic conditions in the islands are dire, but we found locals to be resilient, and very appreciative of the cruise business...even if its impact has decreased during these past years.
All in all, it was a very, very enjoyable cruise. Less

Cabin review: DV525 Midship Veranda Suite
Cabin 525 in the Silver Cloud is more than adequate and, actually, quite attractive. It is a mid-ship veranda. Very quiet. We had the AC to the max and it was fine, but we prefer to sleep in a cooler environment.Read All Midship Veranda Suite (DV) Reviews >>
