Red Sea Magic cruise

Sail Date: March 2013
Destination: Middle East
Embarkation: Other

Booked this cruise as a winter sun break at a fantastic price , bonus was getting to go to Petra. Decided not to get off In Port Sokhna or Safaga which were both industrial type ports on the remainder of the days as we wanted to see what life on board was like when all the excursions had departed . Having only sailed with P&O we were not sure what to expect with Thomson given that the ship was about 30 years old . Flight from Manchester was OK however classing it as short haul to avoid having to show films was poor. Cruise terminal building has seen better days and was not air conditioned , took about 45 Min's to check in, once on board warm welcome from staff and taken personally to cabin . The crew were fantastic all week cannot praise them enough , food was very good and was served to you at all times, for me the hand sensitisation policy was excellent and staff were very vigilant in enforcing it thus ensuring the risk of infections was minimised.

The meridian More restaurant served a varied menu, dined there 6 out of the 7 nights , used the buffet restaurant at all other times , again a varied selection to please all .

Entertainment was excellent the team work extremely hard and are very approachable and do their best to keep everyone happy . Thanks to the cruise director and all entertainment team .
Had a tour of the bridge which was very informative and well presented by the cadet .

To sum up excellent value for money cruise on a ship that doesn't have rapids or climbing walls etc but does have a genuine crew who go out of their way to provide an excellent service , even when coming back from a trip you are welcomed back with hot towels and a cold drink and a band is playing on the quayside, ship was very well maintained . Looking forward to the next one . Less

Cabin review: Thomson Celebration 323

Cabin was on deck 4 forward , good position and it had been refurbished was better than expected , only real gripe was that there was only one useable socket . There is a charge of £15 for the safety deposit box, flat screen tv had just been installed on the third day , bathroom had been completely re tiled . The cabin staff kept them very clean

Port and Shore Excursions

Petra Walking Tour

(4)
On day 1 we took the shuttle bus into the centre and had a walk around , there were a few taxi drivers waiting to offer tours but not to pushy. on day 2 took the thomson tour to Petra .Overall a very good trip , guide was very informative all day and very knowledgeable , Petra was well worth the visit, must have walked at least 8km with the last 4km being uphill all the way. Fabulous lunch at the Movenpickhotel Hotel which was included

Industrial type port , knew this before we booked so just enjoyed the hot weather on board
