Last month I was on a 9 night sailing on Enchantment, leaving from Baltimore and visiting San Juan, St. Thomas, Samana, and Labadee. This was my 15th cruise, and 12th with Royal Caribbean.
Pre-Cruise: We drove in to Baltimore and stayed at the Hampton Inn Inner Harbor. That night was very cold and windy, and walking around the harbor was not pleasant. The hotel, however, was very clean and conveniently located. Fortunately, the weather turned and embarkation day was beautiful, around 50 degrees - not bad for Baltimore in March.
Embarkation: Baltimore cruise terminal is not fun. The terminal building is small and cramped. We kept being pointed to "Diamond" lines that turned out not to be Diamond. All in all, once we checked in, we were quickly on board, and straight away to Park Cafe. There was no crowd, and the roast beef sandwich line was short.
At 1:30, rooms were opened. We were in a Junior Suite, which was quite nice from the recent refurbishment. Everything was clean, and the room steward was fantastic.
Overall, the ship was in great shape, and everything looked freshened up. I really enjoyed the upgrades in the Centrum and other public spaces.
The first day at sea was very cold and windy. Waves were high, and people were sick (not me). The captain went out of his way on Day 3 to let us know what was causing the movement, and preparing us for possible late arrival in San Juan. We ended up being delayed by 2 hours.
Kids were allowed in the adult pool for the first couple days and the outdoor pools were closed. By Day 4, the outside pools were open and pool games were going on.
We only attended a couple comedy shows, and they were ok. The entertainment backstage tour was interesting. They also had a presentation on the history of Royal Caribbean, which was fantastic.
San Juan was wonderful as always. We had no problem walking around and finding a place to eat and get some shopping in.
We did not get off the ship for any other ports, except Labadee. Of course, it started raining, and we were back on the ship.
The final 2 days at sea were not quite as rough, but pleasant sailing back.
Food: Typical RCCL fare. Some items better than others, but overall everything was tasty. Our waiter and asst. waiter were excellent, keeping drinks replenished and we appreciated them greatly. The WindJammer buffet is just that. I do wish they offered pizza more often, but was never disappointed with the options they had. I really enjoyed the new Coke Freestyle machines - they make sodas easy. Chops Grille was beyond fantastic, as always. And our waiter, Ivan, took great care of us. My steak was perfection.
Disembarkation: We chose early departure with our luggage. This was a mess inside the ship. No one to really direct traffic. Once off the ship, we were in a heated tarp area waiting on customs. Unimpressed with the Baltimore terminal, but maybe spring and summer is better.
All in all, a fantastic cruise experience. Enchantment was in great shape, and I will be on her again in a couple months.
