Wonderful Times

Sail Date: March 2013
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Other

Beautiful ship with lots to do. understand why the private island is so highly rated - got lost away from main area and would have appreciated better signage in the boonies. stingrays are in an enclosed area and easy to photo without a tour trip so don't miss seeing them. with the tour you would get to swim with them. came back to ship for lunch so rather empty ship.

missed stop at Georgetown as weather [high swells with winds] made tendering too dangerous. captain said port was closed. nice extra day at sea. cruise director said pulled plan for day 'out of the blue'. would have thought they would have a plan on hand for a skipped port.

roatan was beautiful port at mahagony bay. norwegian Star bearthed in town and carnival Legend was docked with us with her 2600 people. plenty of room with lots to do. short-cut to beach without going through shops is the nature trail nearest the dock. short, easy walk either way. lots of picture spots and use a swing if More one is available.

costa maya was HAL cat sail and snorkel excursion- BEST ever. highly recommended. pool at landing is nice and lots of shopping. beware of non-priced vendors as several were trained in Haiti and Jamaicado deal with the vendors as a $75 hammock became 45 and a $20 ceramic became 12. [found similar for 10 later]

Ship is the best. elevators seemed always available and uncrowded. wife thought lido crew seemed unhappy to be there but several always had a smile and a happy to see you disposition. do get to the silk den and explorations cafe on deck 11 - quiet and unhurried venues usually. do not miss the crew show. it is the ones who are happy to be there and do enjoy their lives. keep track on the moving happy hours - at least three of the ship bars have them - times listed daily in explors papers.

was a wonderful vacation.

NB posters in customs area blamed cutbacks for LONGer than necessary [and usual]lines so BE PREPARED as they seemed unwilling to keep inspection at an expected pace. Less

Cabin review: Nieuw Amsterdam Large or Standard Interior Stateroom Navigation 8041

8041 interior cat I. lots of room and storage. two extra drawers under bed, three closets with fold up shelving so can change arrangement in accord with length of wardrobe you brought. couch for a third we hardly ever used. nice room.

Port and Shore Excursions

Snorkeling

wonderful, interested crew took us to a beautiful reef. advanced snorkelers get in first so more water time and into deeper water. some current but easy trip.

don't miss walking to the stingray enclosure even if you don't swim with them. lookout bar wasn't in use and appeared not to have been in use for a while. pirate ship bar does not usual ship beers but lots of frozen choises. lots of room for everyone especially if you take a short walk up the beach.

lots of room in mahagony bay landing for all- we had Lagend with us so 4600 passengers without being crowded.
