This was our second CX cruise, having been on Milennium in Jan. from past reviews,I was expecting a quality cruise and we were not dissapointed. The cabin, food, service and general atmosphere was delightful - not perfect, but then no one cruise is!
we had one of the slanted balconies that gave us more room and great vision of the ship looking forward on the starbord side - a definite plus and one which would have been used continuously had it not been for bad weather. Oh well, cant have everything! Apart from the fact that the wardrobe doors faced my husbands side of the bed - only inches between - which made getting clothes out nightly very difficult, the cabin and bathroom was large and attractive
great - not brilliant - sometimes lacking flavour and tenderness but not bad either. The menu had good variety in both the buffet and main dining room, with the decor in both very attractive and relaxing. Really enjoyed the modern decor in the Epernay and More
every night we were given a table by our very efficient Host Anna, with lovely people to dine with. Service was always good and especially so as I am on a gluten free diet. Almost every night we walked out saying, "that was a nice dinner". I would recommend the Select dining
Some of the best we have encountered. Some noisy, some subdued and intimate but all beautifully furnished and decorated. On some ships you can never find a place to quietly relax for whatever reason, but on Solstice there was always somewhere nice to sit and do what you wanted to do. No place was too crowded or too noisy, just comfortable and stylish
The production shows - 3 of them- were excellent, the last one more than excellent if that is possible. Not to spoil it for others, just make sure sure you see the show if you are about to embark Solstice! The other entertainers were so so - what you get on all ships! When you cruise a lot, you see them all at one time or another!
All in all, we really enjoyed the ship and the cruise experience. I have already booked next year (even before I got on)- I had a feeling it was going to be a good cruise. So much better than Millenium, I look forward to more CX in the future. Less
Celebrity Solstice Cruises to Australia & New Zealand
driving over the hills to Christchurch was wonderful the scenery is just so exquisite. Seeing Christchurch city centre in ruins was really sad but we would want to go back and see it a yr later as progress is happening v slowly. The container mall was worth seeing - a little joy amidst the sadness
heaps to do from here, like Rotorua and Taupo (only 1.5 hrs drive if you hire a car) but if you just want to wander locally, a must -do is the base walk around Mt Maunganui. If you are agile and fit you can do the summit where you will have beautiful views. We did the latter when we stayed around there pre-cruise and the base walk, we did from the ship. We are both 65+ and reasonably fit but you will still have sore calf muscles after the summit walk!!
