FORT LAUDERDALE

We stayed at the Renaissance, which is directly across from the cruise terminal. Renaissance is just fine. The staff (esp. Debra at the front desk) was extremely nice. We had a large corner room overlooking the cruise terminal. The rooms are a bit dated, but it is a no smoking hotel now, though our room still had the faint stale smell, but it was not bad enough to request another room. The bedding is wonderful. Free high-speed internet access in the lobby to check e-mails (about $10 in your room). There is a 24-hour Walgreen's across the street. We ate at Kelly's (16th Street & Cordova). Northeastern-type seafood restaurant. It was good, but a bit pricey ($73 for 3). Across the street (Cordova) from Kelly's is a wine store sometimes recommended on CC boards. We stopped in there to pick up wine for our cruise. It was like we were imposing upon the attendants. When we asked for a box to pack it in, they acted like we were asking for gold. They acted so put out. So, we put everything we had selected back and walked the other direction on Cordova to Total Wine & More, directly across from Embassy Suites and right next to a huge grocery store / pharmacy. The folks at Total Wine were great, and it is a fantastic wine store and more. We also picked up water and last minute items next door at Publix. There is a free trolley back to the hotel.
