Beautiful Cruise on Eclipse

Sail Date: March 2013
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

This was our first cruise on Eclipse but we are veterans with 27 cruises under our belt and another one coming up next month.
We had a great time with our friends whom we have been cruising with for years. We feel we are easy to please and don't let little things bother us. it makes for a much happier cruise.
Our stateroom was located mid-ship on deck 8 and easy to get to anyplace we wanted to go to. It was very clean and the room steward kept us well supplied and the room was always tidy. Our only problem was that he kept forgetting to leave us our drink vouchers (Elite) but that problem was solved easily enough.
We had Select Dining at around 8:15 and ended up with the same waiter on most nights. He was excellent as was the assistant.
We used the dining room most times for breakfast, sometimes used the Aqua Cafe and also the Ocean View. We eventually decided the Ocean View was just too conjested with passengers wandering around looking for tables. No major More complaints though. the menu selections were very nice and the only thing I really didn't like was the flounder, which was yucky. We loved Bistro on 5.
The entertainment was enjoyable. We only missed one show. We had our evening drinks up on the top deck (can't remember the name of the room) but it is the one where Perry Grant performs. We stayed several times to watch him and always enjoy seeing him and hearing him. He is definitely "one of a kind."
As far as the ports go, we could easily skip Grenada and Curacao, having been there many, many times we would love to see both ports exchanged for maybe St. Croix, St. Barts, Guadeloupe, Martinique or any other port other than Jamaica. We always take a cab or bus to a beach. We did take a long tour on St. Lucia which was nice. We had a large cruise credit to spend.
Getting off the ship in Fort Lauderdale was horrible. It took us 2 hours of standing in line before we finally got to Customs. I believe it is a result of Sequestration and the cutbacks. We had no trouble finding a cab to the airport but once there it was another 90 minutes of standing in line to the Homeland Security stations. Our flight was delayed for a few hours and we finally got back here at 1am, totally exhausted. Would be do it again? Absolutely!!! In a heartbeat. We love Celebrity and are totally loyal to them. The Elite benefits are great and we took advantage of them. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Eclipse Deluxe Ocean View W/Veranda Continental Deck (6) 8265

Nice cabin 8265 which we will book again because of the great location. There isn't much difference in the cabins overall other than veranda or no veranda, inside or outside. It was spacious enough for us, I wouldn't want to have a third person in there. The storage was adequate, bathroom okay, veranda was nice. It was quiet. We never heard any noise except when we were out on the veranda where we could hear the people next door. Just normal conversation, no problem.

Port and Shore Excursions

Aruba is a great place for beach lovers. We discovered years ago that the best thing to do is hop on a bus and find a beach. The last two times there we went to Arusha beach which is close to the California Lighthouse. We had it practically to ourselves although the surf was rough this time.

We always go to the Boatyard! It is our favorite place in Barbados and we look forward to going there each time. I hope they never change it! It is perfect in my eyes.

This is a pretty port but we have been here about 12 times and still haven't found a decent beach. Last time we went to the Aquarium Beach which was just so-so. This will be another "stay on the ship" port for us.

Grande Anse is the only beach we go to here and we are getting a little tired of it. The beach umbrella rental people are downright rude. They were asking $20 for ragged umbrellas and broken-down chairs. It's too bad. The beach is nice. The boat taxis are also getting higher every year. I think next year we will stay on-board.

We took a ship's tour here which was pretty good. It was an all day tour up to the rain forest, to Soufriere for a nice Caribbean lunch at an old mill and then a catamaran stop for a few minutes at a beach. Pretty good tour, kind of expensive but nice.

We walked to "town" and spent a few hours at the local Phillipsburg beach. After a couple of hours it got crowded but by that time we were ready to walk back. The exercise did us good!

We have started to go to Sapphire Beach when we are here in St. Thomas. It is absolutely gorgeous! The water was fairly calm and the sand was nice and clean.
