More than a little disappointing
We decided on this cruise as it was our 25 wedding anniversary and we wanted something special that we would remember - and we will but probably for all the wrong reasons.

Firstly I have to say the ship was lovely and most of the staff friendly and helpful.

Having done some research and reading about Cunard we were really expecting an amazing time with exceptional food and service. But as other reviewers have said everything is just 'ok', unlike the only other cruise that we have been on there was not one 'wow' moment.

The embarkation process took a long time but was well organised.

Stateroom - once we found it! was ok. Plenty of storage space, suitcases fit under the bed. Kept very clean by the friendly staff. One tip, if you leave any little bit of drink in your glass they will not remove it from the room, just tip it away and the glass will disappear.

Food & Drink - very very disappointing. We had to send our food back in the main restaurant three times. It was always cold, but on one particular night the potatoes had obviously come straight from the fridge and not been heated up - the whole table sent their food back. I asked for my lamb pink and it was more than well done. Also the service was poor. Once you sat down the head waiter was hovering to take your order, no explanation of the menu and often the wine waiter would want to take your order before you had ordered your food. You really felt rushed. They also wanted to take the desert order at the same time as your other food. After a couple of nights of this we refused and said to take the order after the main course. The portions were not large and we asked each night for fresh vegetables. The menu was boring and the food bland. The buffet area was just awful - it was cramped and felt like a department store restaurant. Although some of the food here was better than that in the main restaurant. Drinks - expensive!

Excursions - the arranged trips were expensive and we usually would hire a locally taxi and explore independently. Some of the ports of call on this trip were not very nice.

We were surprised at the elderly age of a large percentage of the cruise - we were told that we probably brought the average age of the ship down by about 50 years!

So overall very disappointing and if we cruised again it wouldn't be with Cunard.
