Easy access to the port where we picked up a taxi for four people and had a tour of the island. Booking your own taxi allows you the freedom to spend as much time as you wish touring and you can divert to a beach later if you wish.
Dominica is my favourite island in the Carribean, (of what ive seen) just beautiful and lush with everything growing very easily from cocoa to bananas, coffee beans etc. you cant visit the famous waterfalls until 1-2pm? and then i think only as part of an official tour? not sure about this but they werent open when we wer there. There are volcanoes, waterfalls, rain forest etc to see and the country is hoping to be self sufficient with hydro electric power and other local sources of fuel.
A friendly island, not as poor as others, pretty and people were friendly. We were warned to be careful around the port area, but we didnt feel threatened at all.
very busy island as popular with tourists. the water taxi actually doesnt take you far at all, but it is worth going across to the French side to see this lovely island in its full glory.
The four of us took a taxi with a driver and he gave us a great insight into life on the island.
Great beach to relax on in the afternnon. I tried the shops to buy jewellery but was mesmerised by the huge number of shops all apparantly selling similar items. You need to be prepared and know exactly what you want to buy in my opinion.
