Norwegian Star - February 2013 from New Orleans

Sail Date: February 2013
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans

This was probably the most enjoyable cruise that we have taken to date. I've cruised several times on Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. Previously we have stayed in an Outside Cabin with window, balcony and now an inside cabin. This cruise we decided to stay in an inside cabin so we could spend more money on excursions.

Easy access to the cruise port. We paid to park at the Franklin Street Parking Garage and it was half the price of parking at the cruise port. It was a secured parking lot and there was a free shuttle every 8 minutes that took us for free to and from the port.

We had an awesome time. The room was cozy and being inside was not an issue. If we had a balcony we would have only seen the ocean and the port as we pulled in. The bathroom shower was noticeably bigger, which was the only real difference from the Star vs the Norwegian Sun. The ship was much bigger than the Sun, and offered many restaurants, lounges, bars, etc. The dinners More received an A and the service received an A+. We only paid for one dinner at the sushi bar and is was A+ and cheap. On a previous cruise we ate at one of the specialty steak restaurants. It was good, but it cost us an additional $40.

I had two issues on the ship (safe in room did not open after 1st night & the ship store was out of our brand of cigarettes). Filling out comment cards really makes a difference, particularly when both issues were resolved promptly. We were even given a place of chocolate covered strawberries following the safe issue. The store manager actually went onto another Norwegian ship at port and got us 2 cartons of our cigarettes!

The excursions were awesome! We went Cave Tubing with Cave-Tubing.com in Belize, Zip Lining in Roatan with Pirate Canopy Zip Lining and saw Mayan Ruins in Costa Maya with Native American tours. We booked our excursions directly with these tour companies and saved 50% over the Norwegian excursion prices! We had the same experience but at half the cost.

We're smokers and thought it might be an issue having an inside non-smoking cabin, however we were easily able to find smoking areas on the ship which was very convenient.

I would definitely recommend this cruise itinerary and this ship to anyone. Less

Cabin review: Norwegian Star 9025

We had an side forward cabin which was comfortable. The bathroom shower was spacious, there was plenty of storage space and there were several mirrors which added depth to the room. Only $399 per person!

Port and Shore Excursions

Nice shopping, there was also a swim up pool and bar which was cool. Nothing additional to see unless you do a tour.

Port offered some shopping but was not really cheap. Tour with Canopy Pirate Zip Lining which was awesome.
