Fun but something missing
Our family of 5- 3 teenage boys have cruised previously on other lines. We have cruised princess, carnival and royal Caribbean.

We were not sure what to fully expect from freestyle cruising.

Some pleasant surprises- our family suite. It was large enough for our family of 5 plus more. The bathroom was very spacious and fit 3 adults easily at the same time. Closet space was ample- plenty of storage. Great large screen tv in the room. Main bed was comfortable but the hideaway beds were creaky and felt the bars under the mattress. Awesome view from the floor to ceiling windows. Awesome view waking up to a sunrise from the bed. Loved the daily treats left in the room by our butler, Romel. Was nice to come back to the room to find the room always clean and neat. Espresso coffee maker was a daily treat for my wife.

Do not understand the high priority placed on cheap beach towels or room towels. If you needed extra- you were either charged 12.50 apiece or upon asking for extra shower towels, I was directed to return the dirty ones first before receiving clean new ones. This seemed very petty to me when "service" is the ships' priority. The person working the towel station treated used towels coming in as something he would not touch with his hands and observed them from distance while closely guarding the fresh towels always ready to write a new slip charging the room. Again, the towels are stained and way over used.

Only met our room steward one time. He did a great job but every other cruise we became very close to the room steward and the 2 working the hall in the suites would never say hi when passing by. Quality of work was great. Friendliness was missing.

Food. We look most forward to the food. This was the biggest disappointment. Portions were small. Selection was limited. Quality was mediocre. We did not try any specialty restaurants. Do not like feeling the need to pay up to 25 dollars per person to get a decent meal. Buffet breakfasts were always good and variety was plentiful.

Destinations. Awesome stops in Costa Maya, Roatan and Cozumel. We purchased pre booked, on line excursions and saved lots of money over the on board excursions to beautiful all inclusive beach breaks. Cozumel is quite paradise at nachi cocom. Roatan was beautiful but very busy and vender pushy. Costa maya more quiet but the beach needed to be cleaned from debris. All 3 beautiful water and great swimming. Belize is great for shopping but need to take a 45 minute boat ride to get to a beach. At a great little restaurant for lunch called the wet lizard.

We would have liked to know more about the shows tipping us off to the type being comedy, magic, musical etc. most were one word names without any description.

Best ever embarkation and disembarkation. Quick efficient and well organized.

All in all we loved the cruise. We will probably not choose freestyle in the future. We prefer better quality dining and building relationships with the wait staff. NCL tries hard to deliver excellent over good but too many staff members were unfriendly. In fairness, those who were- made up for it by being exceptional.

Big shout out to Romel. Couple of sick kids and his concern and service to the room was really nice!
