We just sailed on the March 2nd southern Caribbean cruise on board Summit. This was our third cruise and first with Celebrity (prior sailings include Oasis (RCL) and Epic (NCL)). We are 26 and 30 years old. Overall, this was a very memorable experience and the best overall in terms of food, entertainment and hospitality services.
We spent 3 nights in Puerto Rico visiting Old San Juan and the Aricebo observatory prior to boarding the ship -- highly recommended.
Food in the main dining room was always very good and the selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts was extensive each day. The mid-week brunch was a nice touch and the array of food was broad. The cafe on deck 10 was above average and included an eggs Benedict station and waffle station -- nice touch. Burgers on the pool deck are very good. The Mast Grill at the aft end of the ship serves up chicken, steak and salmon on demand. Healthy meals in the Aqua Spa cafe were high in More
protein and felt wholesome after a good workout. We ate at one specialty restaurant (Normandie) -- outstanding food and service. Celeb serves complimentary Lemonade, POG, Fruit punch and Apple Juice, Orange Juice, teas and strong coffee. RCL offered lemonade only and NCL offered just water or iced tea. If you're a drinker opt for the alcoholics package (You'll need to consume 8 drinks per day to get your $$$ worth). Celebrity allows two bottles of wine in luggage at embarkation. Additional alcohol will be confiscated and returned to your room on the night prior to disembarkation. There is a fee to cork wine in a restaurant.
We totally recognized the long days these guys work to give you the service you expect. Staff was always pleasant in every area of the ship and they greeted guests with eye contact at every corner. Even when it wasn't genuine it made me feel good. We had an inside stateroom on the concierge floor. Although the beds seemed less comfortable than they were on RCL, the room was clean and modern and the staff assigned to room cleaning service was impeccable and thorough each day. Considering how many guests use this ship every week, the common areas were kept very clean and they appeared very new. Crew were always cleaning or repairing something for the sake of appearance. At one point I complained about the pressure and grime build-up in the water fountain at the gym -- it was dismantled and repaired by the next day.
There was entertainment happening each night and the adult themed hypnosis was hilarious! The cirque-like performances were just average. The latin guitarist was very good and the director of the cruise was a previous Broadway singer, really! I saw passengers aged 5 to 85 dancing with the ship's crew at the white party. Stargazing was overcast and windy but a fun way to pass time.
Overall, we were very pleased despite the occasional average or negative review of the ship and its destinations. Celebrity is the clear choice for our next cruise. Peace out! Less
