We arrived in Barcelona the day prior to embarking. Spending the day walking the streets staying at Hotel Do were the highlights of the entire trip!
Embarkation:
Similar to security at an airport. Once you pass through there is a representative to direct you into line. Having upgraded to a Penthouse we were sent to a VIP line and from that point escorted to a waiting area. We then met our concierge and told we would be taken to the ship shortly. The first of many picture ops is taken at this point...very annoying. It should be an option if you want your picture taken, instead they harass you until you allow it to be done. I learned my lesson and from then on absolutely refused any further pictures. I know a lot of people enjoy this but for us it's just another way for the cruise line to make money and is irritating.
If you can spring for it an absolute must for a long cruise is booking a Penthouse. Two rooms making it much more comfortable for 2 people. Plenty of storage so you can completely unpack. Hangars provided along with Tea/Coffee maker, fresh fruit and daily afternoon aperitifs. Balcony is plenty big for 2 chairs and small table. Large garden tub overlooking the sea and shower stall as well...with blinds for when you're close to port or other ships. Large comfortable bed with selection of pillows. The window in our bathroom would not close properly but maintenance had it fixed by the next day....they screwed it shut permanently so don't try to open it! Two safes in the room both of which malfunctioned. Security came promptly to fix them.
