We are a 48 year old married couple,we usually do an inside cabin(cheapest price and we only sleep and get ready in it).
Embarkation was quick and efficient less than 20 minutes.
Our luggage and some clothing inside arrived wet from the rain during embarkation. How can luggage not be covered during that process? They dried and folded but no dry cleaning. Had to have water-stains removed later, no charge of course. Comped us a cheap bottle of wine.
No life-jackets at muster was different...good.
Ship looked great.
Cabin was small as expected.143 sq ft.
Arrival lunch buffet was good as we were hungry. Lemonade and Tea were drink options.
First night dinner service was slow motion, one hour and twenty minutes from time we sat til our appetizer was placed. 2 1/2hour total. They blamed it on a new menu. I was more patient the next few nights but 40 minutes was the norm, from sitting til starting to eat...too long, 2 hours total.
Lots of older folks as expected, Enough deck chairs even on sea days.
Ports were great.
Tortola, rented a scooter for the day and explored the island. Super cool
St. Martin, just water-taxied($7-rt)over to Phillipsburg beach and shopping. OK (got rum)
Martinique, another water taxi($22-rt)to Pointe du Bout beach kinda seedy, appeared to be hot spot in the eighties but run down now.
Antiqua, Taxied($16-rt)over to Turners Bay Beach(Great Day) Do not try local bus was the advice from the tourism booth at the pier.
St Croix, Beautiful but stank at the pier(drainage pipe problems we were told)beach was closed as a result. Good shopping with music and a State Fair type vibe. got more rum... thanks rum-runners.
Overall, never been on a bad cruise right? Anyway I would say 7 out of 10 stars. The ships staff even when pressured was cheery and courteous. The entertainment as a result of budget cuts, I'm sure, was basically non existent A finalist on "Americas Got Talent" warrants headliner status? I think not... no, know not. And the absolute no question about it theme was direct the herds to spend money either at the bars or shops or casino. These were the only activities options in the evening. For example one evening after the late dinner they had a 70's night disco band going in the atrium with the staff dressed and dancing, meanwhile the crowds are all standing at the rails edge for thirty minutes then the director announces the party is moving to the Crown Lounge. Being the only entertainment option, making the crowds stand for thirty minutes, then herd them to the bar... classless and apparent, come on Royal!
Food, dining room as stated was slow... but food was above average, choices each night were not the best Ive seen. The Buffet was pretty bad, lacking of choices and being obvious leftovers from the previous nights dinner. French fries were good. Anybody heard of chicken and potato pizza? me either, anyway, another example of cheapness, not culinary expertise.
We did the Express departure, walked thru atrium at 7am, no lines walked off ship, ten minute line for taxi, Airport... done.
