Being from Minnesota, the four of us look for a warm getaway every winter. This is the first year we all took a cruise together. We got two cabins next to each other. The cabins were a nice size and well laid out. We loved our cabin steward Roque and wish we could have taken him home with us. We really liked the ports (Cartagena, Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten and St. Thomas. It was our first time visiting all these ports. We were in Aruba for the Grande Parade of Carnival - that was a crazy (but fun) day. We didn't see much of the island but the parade and partying were great. The Sun is an older ship but very well kept up. Crew members were constantly scrubbing, painting and making sure that everything was ship shape. We really liked the food in the main dining rooms - especially the Seven Seas. The wait staff there was excellent. The buffet (Garden Cafe) was a bit small and crowded at times, but the food was very good. We never went hungry! We liked swimming in the pools on days at sea. We went to the main show every night. We loved the ones featuring the ship singers and dancers - they are so good and work very hard. We liked most of the other shows. The juggler/comedian was our least favorite. The acrobats were amazing. We are not big drinkers and we appreciated being able to enjoy entertainment throughout the ship without having to repeatedly tell wait staff that we did not want a drink. All in all it was a wonderful trip and we will definitely cruise again.

Cabin review: Mid-Ship Inside

Nice size and layout. Good location near, but not too close to stairs and elevators. Quiet. Excellent steward! Inside cabin so dark we overslept and had to start setting our alarm clock so we wouldn't miss things.

We didn't really see much in Aruba beyond the Grande Parade for Carnival. That was special though so we will just have to visit Aruba again to see the rest.

It was a really hot day (at least for Minnesotans). We took a taxi to the walled city. It was very educational and beautiful with flowers everywhere. We ate a light lunch at La Victrole - a fancy restaurant with AC. Food was good but not as good as on the ship. On the way to town we took a shuttle out to where the taxi's were. But on the way back to the ship we expected a shuttle again and there wasn't one. Plan extra time to walk back to the ship.

What a beautiful city and island. We took a van tour that we found just after leaving the ship. Our guide Ruth was excellent - very well informed and easy to understand. My favorite thing was the colorful buildings.

We took a Bernard's tour. Our guide was Timo and we really liked him! He made sure we were at Malo Bay Beach to see a large jet take off and another one land. That is really an experience not to miss. The tour included beverages which was great. The whole day there was a lot of fun.

We took an open seated truck tour that we found after leaving the ship. It was very good. We got dropped at Magen's Beach for the afternoon and LOVED it. The water was so clear and warm we all went for a long swim. The same truck tour company arranged for a ride back to ship for us. We avoided the shopping area - which is the main reason many go there.
