Millenium Cruise of Asia
Following our experience on our 2 recent cruises Gems of SE Asia and SouthEast Asia Northbound on the Millennium we do not feel we can book with Celebrity again.
Neither of these cruises met the expectation we had of Celebrity cruises. Amongst the reasons for the dissatisfaction are: -
The Ocean View cafe.
The food here was often only just warm except for the soup, the stir fry and the grill counter. Even at the grill counter it was impossible to get hot french fries.
Much of the food was processed or frozen even though there was frequent ports of call where fresh food could have been obtained. The drink stations especially in the
evening following the entertainment were frequently closed and the one or two that remained open were not properly stocked with cups and spoons for
the number of people wishing to use these facilities.
In summary the service provided was mediocre especially when we have experiences on Norwegian, Princess and Royal More Caribbean to compare it with
Grossly overpriced and information of what to expect of the excursion was incorrectly stated. For example The itinerary states that Hanoi is a port of call when in fact
the ship Anchors some 4 to 5 hours distant from the City. Not to mention that the excursion staff failed to mention that during Chinese New year many tourist attractions
and shops would be closed upon arrival at these destinations. In our particular case we were sold transport to Vung Tau only to find we had to sit in a hotel for 4 hours
awaiting return transport because absolutely nothing other than a few hotels was open when we sold the package on the understanding we could visit
the White Palace, the statue of Jesus and take advantage of the shopping for local arts and crafts.
Your excursion planners should have been aware of this and offered advice to your passengers before they wasted their money.
As for overpricing a taxi cost us $10 each for 4 of us to go to Kuta Beach - Celebrity were charging $45 EACH for the same journey by bus.
In Hong Kong an excursion was arranged to see the highlights of the city Victoria mountain etc. Weren't the excursion staff aware that frequently the
top of the mountain is shrouded in mist at 9am but by noon its clear? Most people with local knowledge made us aware of this fact surly the excursion department should
research the destinations which they clearly don't. Common sense tells me this 4 hour excursion should have commenced at 11.30 am and not 9am.
The Internet and ilounge
This service was almost non existent with connection frequently unavailable. It was our intention to purchase duty free an iPad but the attitude of the staff
plus their inability to sweeten a deal with free internet time caused a change of mind. Especially as our last cruise offered unlimited internet access in each cabin
at no charge.
The shows on most nights lacked variety. they were an hour of the dance company or an our of an artist. Though some of these artists were excellent it would
have been preferable for say a dance routine followed by guest artist and end with a finale
On a positive note the service we received from Richard and Marko in the Metropolitan dining room was excellent and our cabin staff Josh and Harri did a fantastic job.
The ship was clean and kept that way by contentious staff.
Thank you for your offers but following our unsatisfactory experience we say No thank you, Celebrity does not get our recommendation.
