This was the first ship we sailed on and years ago it was gorgeous. However, 15yrs later - it looks the same ship only in a negative way. The ship is completely outdated. The windows around the entire ship were filthy! and made it difficult to see out of. The gorgeous wood railings have not been kept up but are weather beaten and feels grimey. The carpets around the entire ship are filthy. The staterooms are completely outdated; the bedding feels old and saggy. The dance/disco area is small and uninviting. The casino is a joke!! It is so outdated with a very small variety of slot machines or table games. Don't even bother to play the slot machines. They have turned the machines down so low that you are lucky to win a couple quarters --- and they still kick out coins. Are you kidding me - what with all the worry about bacteria and illness on board? The casino staff was rude and unfriendly.
The entertainment was barely average which probably appealed to most of the much older crowd. They had two 'older' comedians who focused their jokes around the nursing home crowd.... really? The dancers and singers, however, were quite good.
The serving staff was excellent. Good variety of daily food and lots of it - however, most of it lacked any form of flavor. Once again, it seems like the cooks prepared for the very 'senior' crowd who needed to watch their bland food intake.
It was hard to find a beverage server around the pool. And the 'drinks' were weak.
The fitness center was small and very hard to get to. You have to walk thru the spa and have the spa attendants stare you down. The machines are also outdated.
The 'adult pool' area was lovely - very peaceful and calming. Other than the filthy windows we had to try and look out of - it was our favorite place on the ship.
Our cabin was right above the gang plank. Neither the Royal Caribbean nor Cruises.com informed us of this when they booked us in to this room. We were abruptly awoken every day for 6 days between 5:00am and 6:00am when the ship ported. They dropped chains/ropes against our outer wall which startled us awake, as well as, the gang plank and proceeded to prepare for tourist departure. Being that our room was RIGHT above the area most of the ship left for excursions - it sounded like being in a ship yard. Unbelievable that they would even charge for this room!! We complained. They said 'oh sorry' and did nothing.
We love the Royal Caribbean cruise line - but not this ship! They need to do a major overhaul.
