I really love to cruise on RCCL ships, but i am sorry to write this rather negative report on Brilliance of the Seas. This ship is not on my list of ships I like to cruise on again. The ship has a very beautiful design, and I really like the design on these German built ships. I cruised on Jewel of the seas last fall from Boston to Ft. Lauderdale, 13 days, and tough I was just unlucky to get a cabin next to the pool machinery equipment, which made the cabin noisy. So, this year I carefully planned which cabin I should book, and had cabins on all sides. We woke up the first night on board by machinery running, this was on deck 10, and we were told by security, this was hydraulic pumps, and deck 7 experienced the same problem. We asked Guest relations to be moved to another cabin, but they said the ship was fully booked. After a few days we were moved to a cabin on deck 4, cabin no. 4502, and we heard nothing, it was so quiet, but only until 0330 in the morning. Both 1. officer and the guest relation admitted this ship does not have sufficient insulation between the cabins. I asked the cabin attendant for how long this cabin had been vacant, and he said for the whole cruise, which proves the guest relation ass. manager was not correct in telling me all the cabins were taken. Before accepting the 4502, i inspected 2 other empty cabins on deck 9, and both had a noise level which was not acceptable. They told me in forehand, those cabins would be absolutely quiet, - one was next to a machinery room of some sort, and the other and the ducting for the funnel behind the wall. I have travelled on 2 Visions class ships and one Voyager class, and I never was bothered with notice from next door cabin or any pumps and electric motors on those ships. During the luncheon for Platina and Diamond C&A members, one american asked to 9 others at the table what we though about the entertainment onboard, and everybody started to laugh, there simply was no entertainment like you are used to. There was no show in the theatre, like there has always been on RCCL, only single performers, or a group of musicians. No games on the deck, and very little went on inside. First live music did not start until 0530 PM. In the minstrel dining room, i was surprises to see how filthy the floor carpet was, and the chairs at the table were full of stains. The Brilliance of the Seas has a different ownership than all the other RCCL ships, I wonder if this different ownership mean anything to the do the lack of entertainment and the state of the furniture in the dining room. Check-in in Barcelona at 1200 noon lasted 5 minutes, and check-out after the cruise was much quicker than onboard Voyager of the Seas in the same port in may 2006. The cruise went to the regulate ports of call in western mediterranean, except for first time call for Brilliance in Tunisia. Many passenger felt the excursion in this port was less interesting than in others, or they were not planned good enough. Some ended in a warehouse for 2 hours, others were left on their own in the city without any map or instructions were to go. Those who took their own cab to the city Tunis, were overcharged by the cabdrivers. The little port where the ship docked, had absolutely no charm, and I think may preferred to stay onboard in Tunesia.
