Some friends of ours wanted to cruise the eastern Caribbean this winter and said they preferred sailing with Princess. We have sailed Princess twice and we also like them. But we were looking for specific ports of call, and the Norwegian Sun was going to all the ports we wanted to go to. (St. Thomas,Dominica,Barbados,St. Lucia, and St.Martin). This was also a 10 day cruise as opposed to a 7 day and the price was right. My wife and I had previously sailed on the NCL Pearl and even though it wasn't our favorite ship we had no reservations about sailing with NCL again. Our friends had never sailed NCL.

Room. We were a little concerned about this being an older ship, but the ship was in very good condition and we liked the lay out. We decided to go cheap and got inside rooms midship on the 9th level. Our room was one of the biggest rooms we have ever had. There was plenty of storage space and the room was laid out nicely. There was an old style TV in the room that was replaced during the cruise with a nice flat screen TV. There was a small refrigerator in the room and an in-room safe. The blow dryer is mounted on the wall about the toilet in the bathroom. My wife would have preferred a real blow dryer. The bed was just ok, and the 4 pillows that were on the bed were quite hard. The second day my wife asked our room steward for some softer pillows and there were two softer pillows on the bed that night, along with the other 4.

Food. We quite enjoyed the food on this cruise. The buffet had a good selection of food and we loved the ice cream bar, with both soft and hard ice cream. At night they had crepes, which were also pretty tasty. We ate all our dinners in one of the two main dining rooms. The service was good and so was the food. We had no complaints whatsoever about the cuisine, (except maybe that shrimp cocktails were never an option). There was lobster offered on two different nights.

Nice, large (compared to other ships) cabin. Plenty of storage. Beds are a bit hard.
