There was a total 12 adults who decided on a rainy day in August that we needed to escape Our river that had no water due to a drought. We are all boaters and needed something to make up for the lack of water we had.
We took the Amtrak from Kankakee IL down to New Orleans. 18 hour trip more fun on the way down then the way back. Very cold but it was a different form of transportation.
We had reservation at the Cotton Exchange hotel. I am not going to get into that to much because we already wrote about it and also put something in the New Orleans post about it. All I am going to say stay away. They messed our reservations up so bad that it took me 3 hours today to find out who managed them. Terrible Management at this hotel. From what I heard through different parts on the internet they are trying to sell it. They just need to get Management in there who know what they are doing.
The cruise was absolutely wonderful. I can not say enough about the crew and the ship. We have been on 8 other Carnival Cruises and this one rocks.
The only rude crew member we found was at the kiosk to book another cruise. Really non personality that we are going to book elsewhere.
The buffet is opened for lunch and then again at dinner at 6:30pm. I do miss the days when you come back from shore and you can eat in the buffet. Now your choices are Guy's burger and the Deli. Not much choices with 2800 passengers on board at this time.
We only ate dinner one time in the buffet. Very limited with the choices and desserts.
We tried the taste bar. Prefer the sushi. You really have to eat with your fingers and not a great thing to do.
Favorite Bar Tahiti Casino. You can smoke there and the staff is wonderful. Perfect for a meeting place for the group.
The only show I saw was the Flying Scotsman. He was wonderful ,funny and was sad when the show ended.
Dinner in the dining room excellent servers, beverage server always there. Ordered a flat iron steak it was how I wanted hot and rare.
Our cabin was always cleaned. We were on Main aft .You did hear the noises from parts of the ship when you were getting into dock but it did not bother us at all.
Hardly saw cruise director. The night that the Mexican Fiesta was suppose to start at 10 didn't til 11 at night .Very disappointing in this. In fact the two nights they had partied on lido not much to say about them.
There was enough stuff to do around the boat. And if you want a great place to lay out with a private bar for to the forward section climb up the one set of stairs. It is right below basketball and put put golf.
No matter what people say about Carnival we will cruise with them again. We can understand why buffet closed with all the food we saw wasted. The only sad thing is if you want a sweet at night there are not that many choices unless you are in the dining room. Grab it at lunch put it in your room to have later.
Trip home on Amtrak night mare. Will never go with them again..
