Myself, husband and two kids (7 & 9) were on the Victory Aug 7-12th. We had been in New York for 2 days so we took a cab to the pier around 1pm and were on the ship in our room at 1:30pm everything went very smooth (except for the video camera I left in the cab) as we had lunch in New York.
The kids got on their suits and had a swim on the Lido deck while we enjoyed cocktails. The weather was 90 plus so there was no cold issues.
We left at 5:30pm and enjoyed the view of the New York skyline.
To be very brief...the kids loved Camp Carnival well worth it for them, the food in the main dining rooms was good no complaints. We stayed away from all the buffets, chinese and deli..except the pizza place (ask for your own whole pizza cooked fresh, we waited 10 minutes and it is worth it).
The shows are a bit hokey but the kids liked them...
Ports: St. John is a very small port. We didn't book a shore excursion but booked the city bus tour at the end of the road when you get off the ship. It was $44 cnd for all 4 of us, it was 2 hrs, the tour guide even dropped off back at ship...
Halifax has much more to do and we walked the boardwalk to check out the sites, went up to Citadel Hill (by taxi) then walked down to the Marine Museum (kids loved it). Very cool souvenirs at the "Cool as a Moose" store, had homemade poutine fries from chip truck some local beer and back on board for some swimming and music by Lido deck (we all lucked out with weather on this one it was over 80 degrees in both St. John and Halifax with no fog either way on the ship),
Kids got to swim every day and we enjoyed the fine weather on the deck chairs. Downside, the wait staff push drinks way too much and the extras $$ everywhere you turn add up..
Upside: won $1500.00 at casino on last day!!!
I would go again with kids, wouldn't bother as a couple. By the way we booked a balcony guarantee and got 8340 on Verandah deck, beside elevators and one staircase up to Lido, loved location and view...
