Carnival Victory - Canada/New England

Sail Date: July 2006
Destination: Canada & New England
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

Arriving at the pier and boarding, the fastest we have ever experienced! Disembarkation was quick and easy as well. The staff at the pier was helpful when our bags were not in the proper color tag area and the gentleman who took our luggage for the whole family (10 people) down to the street was personable.

Our dining room staff was excellent!! Our waiter, Joel, was excellent. Our dining room team was accommodating, polite, and remembered what we liked from night to night (i.e. who drank decaf, who ordered a side of steam veggies). Excellent!

This was our fifth cruise, our 2nd on Carnival, never again! Celebrity and Royal are by far superior! This was the dirtiest ship we have ever cruised on! Unbelievably dirty, not like we remember on our first cruise (which was on Carnival-12 years ago)! The windows and balconies were filthy. The cabin was overall very dirty with coffee rings from the previous cruise??? on the counter. Gross! There was dust in the Med. Rest More (buffet) just above the food and the floors were at times slippery! The smell of sewage in some of the public bathrooms on the lower floors (5th/4th) was horrendous. It took them a few hours to clean up when someone threw up on our floor. The noise from the 9th (Lido) deck at night was loud (below the restaurant). Fortunately, we are good sleepers and didnt lose that much sleep.

The fog (not Carnivals fault) was incredible, causing the foghorn to go off at a few minute intervals 2 nights of the cruise and for half of one of the sea days. Seas were 7.5-12 feet on the way home from Canada, so it was a bit rough. Again, no fault of Carnival, just want you to be aware that this is possible.

The food selection was poor. The quality of the food was average to below average (depending on the day and what it was). The lobster was the best thing offered on formal night, which was good. The prawns on the menu on formal night were nothing more than 5 small shrimp on a plate with a dab of cocktail sauce. Prawns are supposed to be the huge shrimp! Not impressed. The deli did offered good tasting sandwiches, the pizza, & grills were fine for snacks, as needed. No sushi was available for lunch each day, as advertised. Desserts, some were great, some were horrible. So average sums it up.

Overall, the vacation was great because of who we went with, the destinations were fine, the ship&.. I would not recommend the Victory to anyone! Back to Celebrity for us! Less
