Sail Date: Apr 2006
Cabin: Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

Zuiderdam cruise was 18 days from Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco via Panama Canal.

STATEROOM. We were in VC class with verandah. The room was smaller than an equivalent class on HAL's older ships such as Statendam. This newer 'Vista Class' of HAL has more verandah rooms than previous, but size has been reduced. Knock one star off the final rating for this feature alone.

SHIP INFO: Public Areas were clean. Only one gangway in ports of call which did cause some lineups. Note - they have NO self service laundry. Their laundry charges were reasonable however (by the bag). For 18 days my wife and I got by with only $24 in laundry charges. Internet charges were outrageous at 75 cents/minute and it was slow. The ship's store has almost nothing in the way of sundries so make sure you bring them with you or you will have to get them ashore. I guess there is more profit in cheap watches than toothpaste.
