OK. Here we go. We just got back from a very nice cruise on the Carnival Destiny. My wife and I (33 and 34 years) took our 3 yr old as well. This is our 8th cruise with 4 cruises on RCI, 2 on Princess and one on Regal.

Embarkation: We arrived at the port in San Juan, PR around 2pm on Sunday via taxi (for ~$23 plus tip)and since we booked the category 11 suite (1st time with a balcony cabin, let alone a suite)we had VIP status. This meant that one inside the embarkation area, we were shown to the VIP area where we went to get our cards etc. There was a small group ahead of us so we took a seat on the couches they had and decided to have some apple juice which they also provided. We waited about 10 minutes before we were taken care of. Only took 5 minutes and then we were off to have our carryon bags screened and then we were on board. From airport to room, it probably was only 45 minutes total.

Our Room: Our room was a category 11, suite with large balcony on the Empress deck on the 7th level. We have always booked either inside or outside cabins but this ship had such good rates that we splurged and were not disappointed. The balcony was wonderful and the decor was much better than the typical cabins. Nice granite countertops and a whirlpool tub which our daughter loved for her bubble baths. King sized bed for us and a couch that turned into a nice twin bed for our daughter.
