My wife, four-year-old daughter and I cruised on the Disney Magic from 4/22/06 to 4/29/06 on the Western Caribbean itinerary. We decided to drive to Port Canaveral from Orlando, which worked out fine; we parked right next to the terminal. Its $84 for a week of parking. We were a little skeptical of having a good time with so many kids around (nearly 1,000 on our cruise) and so much Disney, but we ended up having a terrific time and I would recommend this ship to anyone with young kids, youll all find something to do. Some specifics&

What we LIKED MOST: The well designed Mickey Pool for kids and Quiet cove pool for adults, the Oceaneers kids club staff, the service and food at Palo (the upscale restaurant), Nice cabins in very good condition, excellent service generally throughout the ship with a very detail-oriented crew. Our daughter loved the constant appearances by Disney Characters, but wished there were more Princesses and fewer animal characters. The live shows were very high quality and left our daughter awe-struck, particularly the show Twice Charmed. The highlight of the trip was Castaway Cay, their private Island. Plenty of white sand beach, blue water, music, food and drink. There were more than enough lounge chairs for everyone, too. They are offering several upcoming cruises with two stops at Castaway Cay, which I would highly recommend.

What we LIKED LEAST: Topsider Buffet-a dreary cafeteria ambiance with food to match. Buffets dont have to be like this, and other ships do it better. The poolside snack bars are a better bet for lunch, with surprisingly good salads, wraps, pizza and fries. Another problem area is the Goofy main pool. Because of the rolling dance floor on top of this pool, it is set in to a deep well, with no inviting splash-around area like the other pools. The floor mechanism is visibly rusting, so it was like swimming in a deep, rusty tub, and a very crowded one at that. Both this pool and the buffet are below competitors standards, and should be re-designed if they ever build the long awaited 3rd ship.
