My family went on our first cruise together aboard Mariner. Our eldest daughter was 14, my sister was 11, and my husband and I were in our late forties. I was in charge of finding a cruise that would keep us entertained for a week. My husband, who had been on two cruises before, was very worried that he would be board to tears during the at sea days, so I did my best to find a cruise with a plethora of activities.

We chose to book two cabins, one for the children and one for the parents. My husband and I were in a balcony cabin across the hall from our children in a Promenade stateroom. This worked very well. Though anyone who has been on a RCCL cruise will tell you that the photos of the staterooms are indeed actual size, our strategic planning caused us never to feel too crowded. I would highly recommend it. It is much more affordable than trying to go for four people in their reasonably sized staterooms (ie Junior Suite and above).

We had perfect weather for our cruise, though I don't attribute that to the cruise line at all. In fact, the week of our cruise was the only week that August without a tropical disturbance in the caribbean. However, we did get to enjoy many of the wonderful activities the ship offered. The rockwall, sports court (my husband's team won the volleyball tournament) the mini golf, and the skating (both inside and out). Royal Caribbean does not waste space on its decks, yet the ship never feels too crowded. Except for the pool deck. That gets crowded easily.
